OVERVIEW

The climate emergency is the defining challenge of our time, demanding an urgent and transformative response. The window for small, incremental action has closed; the moment for bold, emergency-level action is now.

Action for the Climate Emergency (ACE) operates at the intersection of clean energy advocacy, strategic media, and civic participation to accelerate global decarbonization. Through cutting-edge media strategies, ACE combats climate disinformation, flattens the curve of clean energy opposition, increases diverse participation in our democracy, and inspires meaningful action. Our programs engage tens of millions of people annually, mobilizing audiences that traditional climate efforts often overlook.

ACE’s dynamic and diverse team thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, united by a shared commitment to addressing the climate crisis. As we expand to meet this critical moment, we seek talented individuals eager to make an impact.

JOB SUMMARY

We’re looking for a proactive and versatile Product Manager with a deep understanding of AI technologies to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical teams and program stakeholders, driving the development of AI-powered solutions that improve our products and services. While you don’t need to be an expert in coding, you should have a solid understanding of programming concepts and be able to effectively communicate with developers, data scientists, and other technical team members.

Your primary responsibility will be to translate goals, pain points, and technical constraints into actionable product features that leverage AI. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to build, launch, and iterate on AI-driven initiatives, all while ensuring that our products meet the needs of our users and stay ahead of industry trends. This position will report to the Senior Director of Engineering and Product.

In this capacity, you will be instrumental in bolstering ACE’s advocacy for a carbon-neutral society, promoting rapid and just transitions to renewable energy in the U.S. and worldwide, and engaging a diverse array of young individuals in democratic processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • AI Strategy & Vision: Identify opportunities to integrate AI into our products and services, defining how AI can drive impact, improve user experiences, and achieve growth goals.
  • Requirements Gathering: Analyze cross-departmental stakeholder input, and translate needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and technical specifications for development teams.
  • Product Development: Lead product initiatives from ideation to launch, working closely with contractors and developers to build and deliver AI-powered features.
  • AI Integration & Automation: Stay up-to-date with the latest AI trends, tools, and techniques, and evaluate how emerging technologies can be incorporated into our products and workflows.
  • Prompt Engineering & Custom Knowledgebase: Use your knowledge of prompt engineering to optimize AI models, and work on building and refining custom knowledgebases that power AI solutions for our products. Ensure that AI systems have access to the most relevant and accurate data to improve their performance and outcomes.
  • Iterative Improvement: After product launches, monitor performance and user feedback to identify areas for iteration, ensuring continuous improvement and optimization of AI-driven features.
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Act as a liaison between non-technical stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring effective communication and understanding of product goals, technical constraints, and solutions.
  • Market Research: Stay informed on industry trends, competitors, and the evolving landscape of AI technology to keep our products innovative and competitive.
  • Guardrails & Ethical AI: Develop and implement guardrails to ensure that AI systems behave responsibly, ethically, and within defined constraints. Ensure models comply with regulatory standards, and mitigate risks related to bias, fairness, and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of AI and machine learning API limitations (rate limits, cost structures), data requirements (input formats, preprocessing needs), and deployment constraints (latency, scalability)
  • Focus on strategic API selection rather than deep implementation knowledge - your role is to choose the right tools for business needs while ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Demonstrate ability to evaluate tradeoffs between different API solutions, communicate technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders, design API-first product experiences, and monitor model performance in production systems
  • A versatile generalist skill set: be good at a little bit of everything and capable of rapid learning through deep dives, experimentation, and synthesizing insights from others.
  • Familiarity with software development processes, programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript), and modern software engineering practices (e.g., Agile, Scrum).
  • Familiarity with core AI/ML APIs and frameworks such as TensorFlow/PyTorch, Azure AI, AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, Pandas/NumPy, Apache Spark, MLflow, IBM AI Fairness 360, Google What-If Tool, LangChain, Pinecone/Weaviate.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into user-friendly language for non-technical stakeholders and vice versa.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams, particularly with engineering, data science, and design.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify pain points and find creative, effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, write clear documentation, and present ideas to various stakeholders.
