Description

MAP’s vision is a future in which all Palestinians can access an effective, sustainable and locally led system of healthcare and the full realisation of their rights to health and dignity.  To achieve this, we work in collaboration with Palestinian communities and trusted local partners, and coordinate with key stakeholders and relevant clusters, to answer a wide range of health and social needs, from providing vital medical aid in emergencies, to supporting the development of better health services for the long term. We also uplift the voices of Palestinians, and campaign for an end to the barriers to health and dignity that come from living through occupation, displacement, discrimination and conflict.  

The Chief of Staff’s primary responsibility is to provide to the CEO primary and substantive support related to their executive direction and leadership of MAP.  


Key Responsibilities

CEO Priorities
  • Advise and assist the CEO in planning, management and implementation of policies as required across MAP.
  • Formulate recommendations and review all correspondence, highlighting pertinent information and identifying those that require attention or appropriate action and ensure follow-up, where required.
  • Assist with coordination across different internal and external divisions and stakeholders, for the achievement of the CEO’s priorities.
  • Work with others to develop monitoring mechanisms for the CEO to track progress of organisational objectives and hold colleagues to account.
  • Lead or support special corporate initiatives of the CEO, including provide technical guidance and direction towards the implementation of the CEO’s priorities.
  • Manage the daily work of the CEO’s office, including line managing and establishing priorities of the Executive Assistant and representing the office in working groups and other meetings as required.
  • Review, prepare and/or organise information and materials for the CEO as required.
 Advisory Services to the CEO:
  • Support the CEO on management and corporate strategic issues requiring their decision or response.
  • Identify challenges and problems relevant for the CEO in a timely way and actively contribute to development of solutions.
  • Identify operational priorities for the CEO’s office and support initiatives or responses to address such priorities.
  • Identify and analyze opportunities and options and prepare proposals, statements, and position papers as required by the CEO, including for MAP governance committees.
  • Review documents for the CEO’s signature when required, including programme proposals and grant agreements.
 Effective communication and information management support:
  • Facilitate flow of information and communication between the CEO and relevant stakeholders, internal and external.
  • Review the CEO’s correspondence, prepare or delegate drafting and preparation of materials as required, whether for internal or external audiences.
  • Draft (or, where appropriate, delegate the drafting of) background notes, briefing, speeches, articles, and correspondence for the CEO, and review these and other materials for the CEO’s approval.

Profile
  • Relevant degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in progressively senior roles ideally with policy and management experience in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Good management skills: the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Self-reliant and results-oriented, with good problem-solving skills. 
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team player who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with the SMT, MAP’s Board of Trustees, and colleagues at all levels.
  • Prepared and able to travel when required, including to Lebanon, occupied Palestinian territory, and Egypt.
  • Passion for MAP’s mission and commitment to MAP’s values.
