Job Synopsis
The Climate Solutions Coordinator will advise local community development partners on project planning, design, and implementation related to sustainable climate solutions. Local partners already have strong community development expertise; this position is focused on supporting them to strengthen existing climate solutions, introduce new implementations using evidence based practices, and bring successful climate solutions to scale. This position will travel frequently to partner offices and project sites in rural Prey Veng province and remote in Kratie province. Their primary working location is flexible with the national office in Phnom Penh, field office in Prey Veng town, and a partner office in Tbong Khmum being options. The position will also participate in networking related to climate change, conduct project environmental assessments, and support the advocacy and external grants teams on climate change related initiatives.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Development, or related field preferred.
- Ability to organize and analyze evidence on the environmental impacts, primarily as related to climate change, of MCC projects.
- Excellent spoken and written English language ability.
- Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to synthesize technical information for general audiences and across cultural contexts.
- Proactive and persistent, identifying opportunities and needs in order to develop clear action plans and request support when needed.
- Strong teamwork and listening skills; able to work collaboratively in a multicultural context to achieve shared goals, while respecting the needs and contributions of all involved. This includes the ability to listen to project participants and field staff, who may have limited education but who have deep ground level knowledge and experience.
- Willing to learn and use local transportation to travel to project sites in rural areas. Able to manage frequent travel to partner offices, rural project sites, and networking meetings in the city.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office suites, as well as the use of Microsoft Teams and Zoom for internet-based communication. Willing to learn how to use MCC’s program database in order to access project information and upload environmental documentation.
Preferred:
- Comfortable with public speaking and developing/giving presentations to diverse audiences. Coordinating with interpreters proactively on technical information that they may not be familiar with.
- Willing to diligently study, learn, and communicate in the Khmer language. Previous experience with Khmer language and culture would be a strong point but is not required.

Key Responsibilities
Partner Accompaniment and Project Planning:
- Collaborate with MCC team and 2-3 Cambodian partner organizations on design and planning of projects with a specific focus on strengthening climate solutions.
- Collaborate with partners to research and develop project concept papers and proposals.
- Review, analyze and give feedback on partner reports, financial reports, evaluations.
- Conduct regular office and field visits with assigned partners to build relationship and monitor projects.
- Work closely with MCC MER team to develop strong M&E systems that produce actionable data.
- Maintain community development partner and project information within Insight (MCC’s project database).
- Develop evidence-based recommendations to strengthen and broaden the positive climate change impacts of partner organization projects.
- Contribute and collect stories, photos, videos, interviews, and similar materials from local partners to promote sustainable climate solutions.
- Join the external grant writing team and compile evidence that can be used to pursue external grant proposals in order to bring proven climate solutions to scale.
- Work with MCC MER team and local partner staff to ensure strong implementation, communication, and compliance related to external grants.
- Study and share relevant climate solutions from regions with similar environmental contexts, such as Ganges Delta and southern Vietnam.
Sustainable Climate Solutions Research and Development:
- Organize field data collection on MCC partner projects in order to evaluate, develop, improve, and scale practical climate solutions
- Act as primary point of contact for institutions of higher education interested in coordinating climate solutions research
- Collaborate with Connecting Peoples Coordinator to develop and support short term positions related to sustainable climate solutions such as YAMEN, SALT, and sabbaticals.
- Stay up to date on climate solutions publications and research in the region.
Environmental stewardship:
- Deeply analyze the environmental impact of MCC and partner programming in order to ensure that negative environmental impacts are being accounted for.
- Assist in development of environmental impact assessments and environmental ‘do no harm’ initiatives for MCC and partner organizations.
- Assist the MCC Representatives in exploring financially feasible options to improve MCC’s environmental impact.
Climate Change Advocacy and networking:
- Facilitate climate solutions trainings, workshops, and presentations for MCC personnel, partner organizations, and local stakeholders.
- Participate in the development and vetting of media and publications related to the climate crisis. Provide evidence-based recommendations and materials as needed.
Miscellaneous:
- Fulfilling various MCC responsibilities, serving on MCC committees, as needed and relevant.
- Cultivate and maintain awareness of the political, economic, social, cultural, and historical contexts of Cambodia.
- Facilitate, coordinate, and respond to disasters, including those that generate unexpected additional resources and require shifts in focus of time/energy and requiring development of immediate and/or short-term plans.
- Attend and participate in regular staff meetings. Present semi-regularly on community development partner and climate solutions work.
- Model nonviolent peacemaking in the workplace and community through respectful interactions with others

Salary Details
Base salary: $853.25. Starting monthly salary may be increased by up to 10% based on previous experience.
Benefits
- Travel to and from assignment is covered by MCC
- Stipend: This is in addition to the salary with the idea to cover a variety of costs typically incurred by staff which are outside of MCC’s other benefits. The stipend is $350 USD/month for International Staff. National Staff (those working in their home country) will receive a stipend amount which is country specific.

- End of Employment Benefits: MCC provides 1 month of salary per year of service when National Staff leave, up to a maximum of 6 months. International Staff who fulfill the length of time stated in their invitations to employment or employment contracts will receive one month of transitional support of $2,400 USD to be provided for each full year of service, up to a maximum of 6 months, to be paid out at the end of employment.
