Position: Communication Officer
Reports to: Chief of Staff

Location: Africa Regional Hub, Lagos, Nigeria

Scope of Work: CIPE is seeking a full-time Communications Officer for the Africa Regional Hub, located in Lagos, Nigeria. This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing a regional communications strategy that effectively promotes CIPE’s mission, programs, and partnerships. This role supports internal and external communications, contributes to content creation, maintains consistency in branding and messaging, and ensures alignment with CIPE’s global communications policies.
The successful candidate will play a key role in capturing and sharing impact stories, promoting partner achievements, managing digital content, ensuring messaging is reaching broader and key constituencies, and engaging local and international audiences.

Responsibilities

1. Content Development and Storytelling
  • Draft compelling content including success stories, human-interest features, blog posts, press releases, and partner highlights.
  • Collect, write, and edit regional program updates for use in global communications materials and reports.
  • Collaborate with program teams and partners to gather quotes, photos, and video content that illustrate program impact.
  • Ensure all content is accurate, relevant, and aligned with organizational messaging and brand standards.
2. Media and Public Engagement
  • Cultivate relationships with regional media outlets and journalists to increase CIPE’s visibility.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and talking points for regional events and announcements.
  • Monitor local media coverage and prepare media summaries or reports for internal use.
  • Coordinate public events, media briefings, and communication campaigns in partnership with regional staff and partners.
3. Digital and Social Media Management
  • Support the management and content development for CIPE’s regional social media channels, where applicable.
  • Create and schedule multimedia content (graphics, short videos, visuals) for digital platforms.
  • Analyze engagement metrics to adjust content strategies and optimize performance.
  • Contribute regional content to CIPE’s global website and social media platforms.
  • Increase social media reach by 10% in the first 18 months.
4. Communications Strategy and Coordination
  • Collaborate with the External Relations and Innovation and Strategic Engagement departments to create a regional communications strategy and plan.
  • Implement regional communications plans that align with CIPE’s global strategy.
  • Provide communications guidance to program and partner staff, including templates, messaging, and brand guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development of outreach strategies that target stakeholders, donors, partners, and the public.
  • Coordinate with CIPE headquarters communications staff to ensure consistency across all platforms and materials.
5. Branding, Visibility, and Compliance
  • Create and execute on communications objectives that elevate CIPE’s profile and program impact while demonstrating how CIPE delivers against donor priorities.
  • Ensure all regional communication materials and events follow CIPE and donor branding and visibility guidelines and regulations.
  • Support documentation and branding requirements for donor reporting, including visual content and success stories.
  • Maintain a repository of branded templates, communication materials, and media assets.
  • Assist staff and partners with branding questions and provide training or resources when needed.
​​​​Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in communications, preferably around mission-driven efforts in the private-sector, international development, and/or non-profit sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital content creation, media engagement, and storytelling
  • Integrated media skills: reprography, multimedia comms asset development, script writing and production, etc. (desired)
  • Ability to collaborate across time zones to deliver communications priorities on time to the appropriate audiences.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills in English; fluency in additional regional languages is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with social media tools, website content management systems, and email marketing platforms.
  • Basic design and video editing skills using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with international teams and local partners.
