The successful candidate will be a key member of the Enterprise Systems Team (EST). A dynamic and energetic team that is responsible for implementing, maintaining and improving our Enterprise Systems such as our ERP, CRM, HRIS, collaboration, content management, BI platforms and other "one off" solutions. A small EST provides support to approximately 500 staff located in 20 countries.

Our Enterprise systems are built on core platforms, namely Salesforce.com, Microsoft (including Fabric and Power BI), Unit4 Business World, and Box.com. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues from across the organisation to design, build, support and provide training on our reporting and data visualisation platforms, with particular focus on managing our Microsoft Fabric and Power BI platforms.

The Data Specialist will play a significant role in supporting the ambition set out in our Strategic Plan 2021-2027 to become a Data Driven organisation, supporting robust data governance across the organisation and maximising the value of our data assets.

The role will report to the Head of Enterprise Systems within the Corporate Services Division. The role can be based in Maynooth, Belfast or Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform Management:

  • Manage and maintain Trócaire's Microsoft Fabric and Power BI platform
  • Support the continued rollout and optimisation of our data visualisation platform
  • Build, develop and maintain data models, reporting systems, data-automation systems, dashboards and performance metrics to support key business decisions
  • Identify, design, and implement automated processes to generate key organisational reports and dashboards
  • Monitor and maintain data platform performance, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience

 

Data Governance:

  • Support the development and maintenance of data governance frameworks across the organisation
  • Create policies and procedures for data quality standards, data management practices, and data usage guidelines
  • Support compliance activities by creating documentation and procedures related to data management practices
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, data catalogues, and documentation standards

 

Training and Support:

  • Mentor, support, and train other team members and the wider organisation on best practice in relation to data management, data warehousing, reporting, and data governance
  • Provide support and training on our reporting and visualisation platforms, particularly Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
  • Develop training materials and documentation for end-users
  • Create and maintain a centralised knowledge base for data-related queries and solutions

Stakeholder Management:

  • Manage relationships with key external suppliers, partners and peer organisations in relation to our data platforms
  • Use best-in-class approaches for data management principles and methodologies
  • Liaise with 3rd party suppliers to resolve data platform issues
  • Contributing to and/or taking the lead on specific data projects as agreed upon by the Head of Enterprise Systems

Documentation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Produce and update relevant documentation and procedures
  • Maintain accurate logs of all data platform activities and resolutions
  • Collect and analyse feedback from users to assess the effectiveness of data services
  • Use insights gained to continuously improve user experience and data platform performance
  • Stay informed about emerging data technologies and trends relevant to nonprofit sector

To take on other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Enterprise Systems

Essential Requirements

Education:

  • IT/Data Analytics qualification or equivalent hands-on experience
  •  

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in data visualisation tools, particularly Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platform solutions
  • Strong experience in data management, data warehousing, and business intelligence

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced Microsoft Power BI skills, including dashboard and report development
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric platform capabilities
  • Advanced Excel and MS Access skills & confident in running advanced queries and reports
  • Strong knowledge and experience in data querying, data mining, data segmentation and working with data from multiple sources
  • Competency in advanced queries using MS SQL and ideally Salesforce SOQL
  • Experience with BI cube development, maintenance and deployment using Microsoft tools
  • Understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and data security practices

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to convey complex information in an understandable manner
  • Proficiency in developing training materials using Microsoft Office and other relevant tools
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and teach new software applications
