The Director, People & Culture provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all HR functions across the organization. This role leads a team of six to ensure the organization attracts, develops and supports a dynamic global workforce of employees. This role will also have direct oversight of the HR function and services we offer to our fiscally sponsored employees. 
 

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, people-centered leader experienced in nonprofit environments, with strong expertise in both strategy and hands-on HR execution. 
 

Candidates must be based in one of Panorama’s hub cities (Seattle, Denver, Washington, DC, and New York City). For Seattle and NYC, employees are expected to work in the office four days per week starting in 2026. In Washington, DC and Denver, this requirement will go into effect once the offices are established no earlier than Q4 2026. 
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities  

Strategic Leadership  

  • Serve as subject matter expert to the organization on people-related strategy, workforce planning and organizational effectiveness. 

  • Lead employee engagement initiatives, organizational culture, change management and employee relations. 

  • Provide coaching and guidance to people managers on performance management, team dynamics, conflict resolution and leadership development. 

  • Partner with leaders to build career pathways and growth opportunities for staff. 

People & Culture Team Leadership 

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of six, including four direct reports: Senior Talent Manager, Senior People Partner, Sponsored Projects, Senior Specialist, Talent Acquisition and People Operations Generalist. 

  • Oversee all HR functions: HR Operations & Compliance, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Sponsored Projects Employee Strategy, and Fee-for-Service business development opportunities. 

  • Develop, implement and manage systems, processes and policies that support employee performance, engagement, development and accountability for both core employees and staff within our sponsored projects. 

  • Use HR data and analytics to make data-driven people strategies. 

HR Compliance and Talent Management  

  • Lead on HR compliance across all federal, state and local employment laws, including worker classification. 

  • Manage risk mitigation strategies, investigations and employee relations matters. 

  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding strategy to ensure equitable and effective hiring processes. 

  • Develop and manage performance management systems, professional development programs and succession planning processes. 

  • Serve as HR Business Partner across Panorama Global, Panorama Action and Panorama Strategy. 

Organizational Engagement & Participation

  • Contribute to opportunities for process improvement and service/practice strengthening towards evolving our platform for social change. 

  • As needed, provide timely inputs for co-design and development of initiatives, proposals, briefings/debriefs, reports, and knowledge sharing efforts. 

  • Provide required timely and accurate recording of data and other information via Harvest, Salesforce, Lattice, SharePoint, and Certify. 

  • Serve on the Leadership Team and provide strategic thought partnership to fellow senior leaders. 

  • Participate in critical elements of institutional decision-making and provide strategic vision at the leadership level. 

  • Contribute to Panorama’s ongoing evolution and growth as a platform for social change 

  • Cultivate a high-performing team by prioritizing collective success, team development, clear expectation setting, and regular performance assessment. 

  • Develop a long-term vision and key performance indicators for your team to ensure that work aligns with and facilitates Panorama’s mission. 

  • Participate in and actively contribute to internal Learning & Development opportunities, including People Managers training sessions. 

Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

  • 15+ years of related professional experience, including a minimum of 6 years with people or team management experience. Experience must include the full breadth of HR areas, including talent development, employee relations, HR operations and compliance. 

  • Experience with HR systems and platforms (Rippling, Lattice, Jazz HR, Tilt). 

  • Experience in a non-profit setting preferred but not required. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively across all levels and utilizing a variety of methods to ensure shared understanding. 

  • Deep understanding of HR related employment laws and industry trends and best practices. 

  • Demonstrated track record of growing inclusive organizations in a culture and values-aligned way. 

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and implement creative solutions. 

  • Ability to balance strategic leadership responsibilities with a bias towards actions – you have experience managing both short-term and long-term goals. 

  • Experience with a globally distributed, remote and in-office hybrid workforce. 

  • Familiarity with international PEOs and fiscally sponsored employment a strong plus.

Compensation & Benefits   

The starting salary for this role is $135,000-$145,000. When determining an initial offer, we carefully consider these factors: candidate skills and experience; room for growth within the band; and internal equity across the team.       

Alongside salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including:
