Engagement and Participation Producer - Communities

Salary: £42,700

Closing date: Wednesday 26, November 2025

Contract type: Permanent

Interview dates: Tuesday 9 & Wednesday 10 December 2025

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

We are looking for an Engagement and Participation Producer – Communities with experience in developing and delivering accessible co-developed programmes for audiences and communities.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will be working in the Live Engagement and Participation team which sits within the Curatorial and Public Practice department. The role reports to the Engagement and Participation Lead.

Through events, gatherings, workshops and learning activities, the Live Engagement and Participation team develops and delivers live programming and participatory engagement for Wellcome Collection's audiences.

The Engagement and Participation team includes the Engagement and Participation Lead, two Youth Producers and an Engagement and Participation Producer. They work with teams across Wellcome including Visitor Engagement and Experience, Library Experience and Engagement and the Collections and Digital Teams to ensure that our programming is meaningful, mission-focused and accessible.

This role will work alongside other Producers as part of a close-knit team developing and delivering activities and events to engage audiences in conversations and ideas about health and human experience.

What will I be doing?

Our Engagement and Participation Producer - Communities will research and deliver a new programme of co-developed engagement activities with our Priority Audiences (including d/Deaf, disabled, neurodivergent and racially minoritised people) that offer space to reflect, heal and share stories and experiences.

You will work closely with the Live Engagement and Participation team, colleagues across the Wellcome, external stakeholders, and partners to develop and build sustainable relationships with audiences with lived experience of health inequalities. Working in partnership, you will co-design cultural activities that centre their needs, interests and expertise.

As Engagement and Participation Producer – Communities Producer you will:

  • Research, co-develop and deliver a new cross-generational programme of engagement activities that bring together Wellcome Collection’s priority audiences to share and connect over their stories and experiences of health.

  • Working with the E&P Lead, develop an equitable approach to working with communities that champions civic needs and local contexts while working within institutional parameters.

  • Develop and manage relationships and partnerships with internal and external collaborators and oversee the smooth running of programme activities.

  • Budget for and manage the work of freelance event facilitators/ consultants where appropriate and procure other necessary resources for activities.

  • Ensure that evaluation and reflection is planned into projects in accordance with team and departmental practice.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

Is this job for me?

We’re looking for a Producer with significant experience in researching, developing and delivering collaborative and co-developed programmes for audiences within a cultural, community-embedded, or heritage setting. We are open to hearing from candidates from different sectors with transferable experience in producing complex creative activities for a diverse range of audiences.

You should be comfortable budgeting, briefing, and managing the work of freelance artists, event facilitators, consultants, and other contractors.

You will have proven experience of building relationships with a wide range of colleagues at all levels of an organisation, pitching and presenting ideas appropriately and independently.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing an annual programme as part of the new ‘Gatherings’ strand within Wellcome Collection's engagement and participation efforts. This programme aims to unite individuals to exchange and connect over their personal narratives and experiences surrounding overlooked health topics. Through this initiative, you will support communities by fostering collaboration, empowering storytelling, and enhancing civic engagement through shared cultural and health experiences.

The Engagement and Participation Producer - Communities will ensure that evaluation and reflection is planned for and embedded into the programme to gain insight into the experiences of our audiences and inform future approaches.

To apply for this role, please submit an updated CV and answer 2 application questions to demonstrate that you meet the minimum requirements for the role.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Experience using a range of approaches for engaging audiences and communities within a cultural, community embedded, or heritage setting, for example, a museum, library, archive, gallery or cultural centre.

  • Experience of collaborating equitably with people able to represent the views of our priority audiences (racially minoritised people; deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people).

  • Experience of working with a range of collaborators, including (but not limited to) artists, activist, community organisations, experts by experience, researchers and writers.

  • Experience of managing projects, budgets and of planning, implementing, and reviewing development.
