Organizational Context
The Security Assistant will support the implementation of UNHCR security policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of staff, persons of concern, and premises. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Security Supervisor and collaborate closely with administrative and operational teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Security Assistant will:
Manage and supervise heads of security guards across Tunisia, ensuring compliance with safety and security protocols to mitigate risks for staff, persons of concern, and premises.
Provide technical guidance and ensure regular induction and training for security guards, including UNHCR Code of Conduct and mandatory courses (PSEA, BSAFE, etc.).
Review and approve duty schedules submitted by heads of guards, monitor implementation, and prepare monthly attendance and absence reports.
Ensure daily presence and punctuality of security guards at all locations through monitoring and coordination.
Liaise with Administration/HR on administrative matters related to guards.
Supervise CCTV operations and other surveillance systems to ensure adherence to security and fire protocols.
Contribute to incident reporting by providing data and maintaining security databases.
Report critical incidents occurring on premises or shelters to the Security Supervisor and liaise with police authorities when required.
Produce daily, weekly, and monthly reports on security activities.
Act as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) in the absence of the Security Supervisor.
Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Professional Work Experience:
5 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma; or 2 years with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
Prior experience in a similar function and environment is an asset.
Fluency in Arabic and French (spoken and written); basic English is an asset.
Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
No criminal record; must be vetted by local security authorities (certificate of non-conviction).
Desirable academic background: Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, or related fields.
Desired Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience with police/military or corporate security and local security apparatus.
Skills in critical incident and emergency management, risk assessment, and application of mitigation measures.
Knowledge of security protocols relevant to refugee/asylum contexts and crowd control situations.
