NEF is seeking a Finance Officer to support robust and transparent financial management within a European organisation dedicated to philanthropic cooperation and the support of civil society.
The successful candidate will contribute to NEF’s effectiveness as a high‑performing organisation by supporting the day‑to‑day financial operations of NEF and its hosted philanthropic collaboratives. In this role, you will help ensure accurate financial processing, monitoring, and reconciliation across systems, contributing to the reliability of financial data used for reporting and budgeting. The position reports to the Senior Finance Manager.

NEF is an association of leading European foundations dedicated to strengthening philanthropic cooperation. We fund and support civil society in its work for social inclusion, democracy and international development – at the European and global level. We aim at better and more strategic collaboration between foundations. NEF is based in Brussels, at the Philanthropy House, it currently hosts 8 philanthropic collaboratives.
Main tasks
As Finance Officer, your main responsibilities will include:
- Financial Operations & Payments
- Support payment preparation, execution, and follow‑up
- Liaise with banks and maintain accurate transaction records
- Assist with internal audit preparation
- Accounting & Financial Monitoring
- Encode, track, and reconcile financial data across systems
- Check consistency between accounting and project financial records
- Support audits and ensure compliance with financial standards
- Budget Monitoring & Support
- Support monitoring of project and organisational budgets and expenditures
- Assist with donor budgets and income tracking
- Flag budget risks or discrepancies and support team use of financial tools
- Other Key Responsibilities
- Support payroll and grantmaking financial processes
- Assist with grantee financial analysis
- Contribute to improving financial management tools
Qualifications & skills
- 3–5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or financial administration
- Knowledge of accounting principles, financial tracking, and budgeting
- Experience supporting internal audits is an asset
- Exposure to non‑profit or philanthropic sectors is an asset
- Strong organisational, numerical, and time‑management skills
- Detail‑oriented, proactive, and solution‑focused approach
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work in a dynamic, international environment
- Tech‑savvy; familiarity with financial and accounting tools (e.g. Power BI, Yuki, or similar) is an asset
- Fluency in French and professional working proficiency in English
What we offer
- An indefinite, full-time (37.5 hours per week) contract based in Brussels
- Salary between Belgian gross 3.600€ et 3.800€ according to experience paid over 13,92 months
