About the Program Finance Team

Come join our team in an exceptional opportunity for you to drive financial strategy for our impactful and cost-effective health interventions. You'll be managing budgets and financial operations for our Safe Water Now program, which provides nearly 10 million people with access to safe water for less than $1.50 per person per year Safe Water Now, directly contributing to preventing over one million deaths annually from waterborne diseases. 

Evidence Action brings Safe Water to more than 9 million people worldwide via our Dispensers for Safe Water and In-Line Chlorination programs. Recent evidence highlights that water treatment may be among the most cost-effective interventions available to save young children's lives, reducing all-cause child mortality by about 25%. Here, you'll have the unique chance to see your financial expertise translate into measurable, life-saving impact across Kenya, Malawi, and Uganda. Reporting to our Associate Director, you'll join a collaborative and always-learning team where you can optimize resources that reach millions of people while building scalable systems that could expand this proven intervention to millions more people lacking access to safe water.

Location

This preferred base for this role is in Washington, DC, USA, however, we will support a remote environment within the US for the right candidate.

You Will:

Financial Strategic Thinking and Scenario Modeling

  • Build directional budget models and scenario analyses to support long-term strategy for the Safe Water Africa portfolio.
  • Conduct cost modeling for various program delivery approaches (e.g. standalone vs layered programs, technical assistance models) to inform decision-making.
  • Apply structure, assumption-based analysis (e.g. BOTEC-style modeling) to estimate costs, evaluate tradeoffs, and inform program strategy in evolving contexts.
  • Provide decision-oriented financial insights to program leads navigating complexity and scale.

Financial Management and Analysis

  • Lead budgeting processes for Safe Water programs in partnership with program teams, including developing grant proposal budgets, managing quarterly updates, and conducting variance analysis to optimize resource allocation and identify trends.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports, donor submissions, and operational dashboards in collaboration with Finance and program teams, developing new tools as needed to enhance decision-making and ensure compliance with organizational and donor standards.
  • Oversee vendor and contractor payments, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and organizational standards.
  • Support the Associate Director and Grants team in donor financial close-outs, ensuring all expenses and allocations are correctly accounted for and documented.

Relationship Building and Country Partnership Orientation

  • Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with country teams and program implementers. 
  • Proactively design financial tools, analyses, or processes that solve field-level pain points and improve decision making.
  • Move beyond compliance checking by engaging as a thought partner, bringing value to program teams through financial insight and solution design.

Program Operations Support

  • Partner with operational and program teams to provide financial input for programmatic expansions and scaling efforts in new geographies.
  • Develop and manage systems to track deliverables, timelines, and key operational processes, including procurement, contracting, and compliance for Safe Water programs.
  • Document standard procedures and streamline financial and operational processes to drive efficiency across the Safe Water portfolio.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years' experience as a professional who has demonstrated excellence with financial analysis and budgeting.
  • You can translate financial and technical data into informative, decision-oriented reports.
  • You have strong professional experiences using Excel (i.e. developing and maintaining complex spreadsheets).
  • You can manage competing and evolving project deadlines.
  • You have project and upward management skills, including proactively flagging deadlines and progress towards them.
  • You have experience working collaboratively in a multicultural professional environment.
  • You can synthesize large volumes of complex information and distill and convey themes for decision making.

The expected role range for this US position is listed below. We consider multiple factors when determining the base salary for a role, including but not limited to: role scope, program budgets, internal equity, and a candidate’s qualifications and/or prior experience.

Note: Pay and benefits will be commensurate with the role specifications, local statutory requirements, and the cost of labor in the markets where we operate. 

The expected pay range for this full-time role is $71,400 - $80,000 per year.
