Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) envisions a future where all children are free from school shootings and other acts of violence. As a national nonprofit organization, SHP’s mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Creators of the lifesaving, evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP teaches the warning signs of someone who may be in crisis, socially isolated, or at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to get help. SHP also advances school safety, youth mental health, and responsible gun ownership at the state and federal levels through nonpartisan policy and partnerships.

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Location
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. This role will require <25% travel on an as-needed basis.

About the Role

The Manager, National Leadership Development supports the day-to-day operations of our National Youth and Teen Development Strategy, with a focus on leadership development for youth across the country, especially those serving on the National Youth and Teen Advisory Board. This role blends project management with direct engagement, offering the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with passionate youth and teen leaders.

We're looking for someone with a background in K–12 education and/or out-of-school-time youth development, and a strong understanding of age-appropriate leadership experiences. You bring integrity, enthusiasm, and curiosity to your work. You're dependable, detail-oriented, and thrive in environments where you can work both independently and as part of a team. Most importantly, you enjoy creating safe, empowering spaces where young people can lead and grow.

Job Responsibilities

Youth & Teen Leadership Advisory Boards

• Plan and facilitate monthly and quarterly sessions with youth leadership boards and committees.
• Collaborate directly with youth to co-create resources supporting SHP’s Unified Program Model.
• In partnership with the Senior Director, establish and manage a committee structure within the National Youth & Teen Advisory Board.
• Oversee board committees to ensure progress on defined goals.
• Manage speaking engagements and requests for youth board members.
• Coordinate guest speakers and messaging related to meetings, events, and convenings.
• Lead the promotion and selection process for new youth and teen applicants.
• Support development and on-time delivery of youth-created program materials.
• Oversee data collection and testing of materials prior to launch.
• Partner with the grants team to report outcomes.

Youth & Teen Leadership Convenings

• Design and facilitate leadership development workshops.
• Create inclusive, engaging spaces where youth feel a strong sense of belonging.
• Develop and support implementation of leadership training materials.
• Coordinate all event logistics: speaker confirmations, travel, permissions, etc.
• Ensure all convenings reflect SHP’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Youth & Teen Engagement

• Build fun and meaningful online communication channels for youth connection and storytelling.
• Partner with the Director of Online Content to enhance digital youth engagement.

Administration & Operations

• Create engaging branded content for email, web, and social media, centered on youth voice.
• Oversee design and production of promotional materials (flyers, banners, etc.).
• Manage data and accommodations for board members.
• Maintain department calendars and coordinate across teams.
• Work with admin staff to manage contracts and shipments related to trainings and events.
• Track and report key metrics; support data-informed decision making.
• Collaborate cross-functionally across the organization.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of experience in K–12 education and/or out-of-school-time youth development, especially within diverse communities.
• Knowledge of Youth Work Methods or similar high-quality youth engagement and partnership strategies.
• Experience in communications and/or marketing.
• Program recruitment experience.
• Curriculum development experience.
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to adapt and meet deadlines.
• Professional, dedicated, and a positive role model for youth.
• Strong communication skills - verbal, written, and interpersonal.
• Proficient in hosting Zoom meetings and webinars.
• Experience with coordination and event planning.

Benefits and Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000.

(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
