The Role

The Program Officer will manage individual workstreams from start to finish—facilitating coordination among teams, independently overseeing deliverables, and being accountable for their successful completion.

You will report to the National Program Manager and demand a candidate who can work with detailed instructions on daily tasks but bring their own judgement and initiative to the work. 

The Program Officer will engage stakeholders - including state teams and external partners — independently, keep stakeholder needs central to decisions, and identify and address planning challenges. 

We expect approximately 20% travel to program states. 

Responsibilities 

Program Ownership and Coordination

The Program Officer takes end-to-end ownership of assigned workstreams, driving execution against approved plans with minimal hand-holding:

  • Own the planning and delivery of assigned IFA supplementation workstreams at the national and state levels. This involves tracking milestones, developing strategic reports, and preparing presentations for state government meetings. Additionally, it includes flagging risks early and improving plans when challenges arise.
  • Coordinate across the New Delhi office team and state teams to ensure seamless execution; improve coordination
  • Monitor program activities and expenditures against approved work plans; identify deviations and recommend corrective actions independently
  • Support integration of IFA supplementation activities into annual work plans and Program Implementation Plans (PIPs) of state health missions
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual operational plans, bringing your own recommendations to the table.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent assigned IFA workstreams directly to state teams, implementing partners, and approved external stakeholders — with confidence and without requiring supervisor accompaniment on routine interactions
  • Understand and keep stakeholder needs central to your decisions; anticipate what different audiences need and tailor communication accordingly
  • Support advocacy efforts targeting key stakeholders at national and state levels, contributing substantive analysis and drafting communications.
  • Consolidate and present recommendations for IFA budget advocacy and work plan understanding of state governments.

Reporting, Documentation and Analysis

  • Lead preparation and iteration of quarterly and annual donor reports and program documentation with guidance from the National Program Manager.
  • Develop documents, briefs, and presentations for internal and external use, observing organisational guidelines and calibrating content to the audience.
  • Contribute to program data analysis, interpretation and review; draw on findings to make concrete, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Maintain rigorous records of program activities, progress, and expenditures; retain and share knowledge products.

Technical Contribution

  • Review program tools, guidelines, and materials with a; flag gaps or misalignments with current evidence or organisational standards.
  • Help prepare program review materials and performance reports, including your commentary.
  • Help ensure quality technical assistance to national and state governments; be a credible technical resource on IFA supplementation for partners.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the National Program Manager.

  • Postgraduate degree in public health, social sciences, health management, or a related discipline
  • 5-6 years of demonstrated experience in public health or international development, with evidence of having independently owned and delivered program workstreams 
  • Familiarity with school- or Anganwadi-based health programs (e.g. maternal/child health, nutrition) strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to coordinate across multi-level teams (national and state) and manage multiple deliverables against strict deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Hindi; able to produce high-quality documents, donor reports, and presentations that require light review
  • Comfortable engaging government officials, implementing partners, and external stakeholders independently and credibly
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong documentation and data management skills and ability to work on AI tools. 
  • Results-oriented and self-motivated; brings initiative and a problem-solving mindset to ambiguous situations
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time to program states

Position Location

This position will be based in New Delhi, India. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in India. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time.

Competitive and commensurate with the individual's credentials, experience, and previous pay scale
