Led by a world-class faculty of scientists, technologists, policy makers, economists and entrepreneurs, the Ellison Institute of Technology aims to develop and deploy commercially sustainable solutions to solve some of humanity’s most enduring challenges. Our work is guided by four Humane Endeavours: Health, Medical Science & Generative Biology, Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture, Climate Change & Managing Atmospheric CO2 and Artificial Intelligence & Robotics.



Set for completion in 2027, the EIT Campus in Littlemore will include more than 300,000 sq ft of research laboratories, educational and gathering spaces. Fuelled by growing ambition and the strength of Oxford’s science ecosystem, EIT is now expanding its footprint to a 2 million sq ft Campus across the western part of The Oxford Science Park. Designed by Foster + Partners led by Lord Norman Foster, this will become a transformative workplace for up to 7,000 people, with autonomous laboratories, purpose-built laboratories including a plant sciences building and dynamic spaces to spark interdisciplinary collaboration.

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Repair and Maintenance Technician to provide maintenance, repair, and general upkeep services across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality finishes across a variety of tasks. This role requires someone who is proactive, efficient, and able to maintain the highest standards of service while ensuring the functionality and safety of the facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing a wide range of general maintenance and repair duties including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and minor construction work. Laboratory and clinic settings will form part of the working environment.
  • Quickly diagnosing and resolving minor facility-related issues such as electrical faults, plumbing leaks, and mechanical malfunctions.
  • Ensuring all work is compliant and adheres to health and safety regulations, building codes, and company policies.
  • Working closely with other departments and external contractors to support business requirements.
  • Regular stock management, Keeping track of tools, materials, and supplies to ensure that necessary items are available for all jobs.
  • Providing excellent customer service to staff and visitors by responding promptly to maintenance or facility requests and ensuring satisfactory completion.
  • Maintaining detailed records of completed work, repairs, and maintenance schedules for future reference.
  • Managing contractor management across all sites.
  • Implementing and reviewing of department SOP’s and procedures for the control of facilities and plant.
  • Implementing and reviewing of facility Risk assessments for routine activities on a routine basis.
  • Out of hours cover: To provide out of hours cover for weekend and evening working to cover business requirements when this is needed (scheduled for non-urgent work).
  • On-Call: To be able to participate, if required,  in any on-call Rota required to provide out of hours response and site attendance.

Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a facilities maintenance or handyperson role.
  • Broad knowledge of general maintenance areas such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and efficiently resolve problems, escalating issues as needed.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and compliance requirements for facility management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively across multiple sites.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between sites.
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to anticipate maintenance needs.

Desirable Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certification in electrical, plumbing, or another relevant field.
  • Ability to use tools and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Basic IT skills for record-keeping and communication.
  • A clear understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses, with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Terms of Appointment:

  • You must have the right to work permanently in the UK with a willingness to travel as necessary.
  • You will live in, or within easy commuting distance of Oxford.
  • Flexibility with hours may be required, including the ability to respond to urgent maintenance needs outside of regular working hours.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, standing, bending, and other manual labour tasks.
  • This position requires travel to multiple sites across Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will be required onsite 5 days per week (Monday to Friday).
