With rapid growth comes the critical need to protect our platform and community from sophisticated abuse. We're looking for a talented and proactive Security Engineer specializing in anti-abuse to join our growing team.
You'll be on the front lines, designing and implementing systems that detect and prevent various forms of abuse, from spam and phishing to account takeovers and fraudulent activity. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact the safety and integrity of our platform and ensure a trusted environment for millions of users.
Ideally, you will have:

3+ years of experience in a Security Engineering role, with a strong focus on anti-abuse, fraud detection, or trust & safety.
- Demonstrable expertise in designing, building, and scaling anti-abuse systems.

Proficiency in Go and Lua is a must. You should be comfortable writing production-ready code in both languages.
- Experience with threat feed ingestion, configuration, and management.
- Solid understanding of common abuse vectors (e.g., spamming techniques, phishing methodologies, account takeover tactics).
- Experience with data analysis and leveraging data to identify and combat abuse.
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their security implications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to outwit malicious actors.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
- A passion for protecting users and maintaining a healthy online community.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with real-time data processing for abuse detection.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts for anomaly detection.
- Experience in the email or content platform space.
- Contributions to open-source security projects.
What you'll be responsible for:

Design and implement robust anti-abuse systems and features to detect, prevent, and mitigate spam, phishing, account takeovers, fraud, and other malicious activities.

Develop and maintain high-performance abuse detection logic and policies using languages like Go and Lua.

Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and data science teams to integrate abuse prevention into the product lifecycle.

Investigate and analyze abuse trends and patterns to proactively identify emerging threats and refine our defenses.

Build and maintain tools to automate abuse detection, response, and reporting.

Participate in incident response for critical abuse-related issues.

Contribute to beehiiv's overall security posture by identifying vulnerabilities and recommending improvements.
