Who we are

Public Digital is a digital transformation consultancy helping global institutions thrive in the internet era.

We work with governments, international organisations and mission-driven institutions to help them adopt the ways of working needed to design, build and run excellent digital services. Our teams combine expertise in strategy, service design, technology, delivery and organisational transformation.

We operate globally, advising governments and institutions on six continents. Our work ranges from improving critical public services to helping countries build digital public infrastructure and shaping how emerging technologies such as AI are used responsibly for public impact.

We are a values-driven organisation. Attitude matters as much as skill, and we look for people who bring curiosity, kindness, initiative and a willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive culture.

Transformation is ultimately about people, and we believe lasting change comes from building great teams and empowering them to succeed.

Could this be you?

We're looking for a senior technology leader who can help organisations tackle complex challenges and make lasting improvements to how they use technology and data.

You might come from consulting, an in-house technology leadership role or a combination of both. Your background could be in engineering, architecture, data, digital transformation or another technology specialism.

What matters most is your ability to combine technical expertise with strategic thinking, build trusted relationships and help organisations turn ambitious ideas into practical change.

You'll be comfortable working with senior leaders while staying connected to the realities of delivery. You'll understand that successful transformation isn't just about technology. It's also about people, ways of working and building the capability to sustain change.

About the role

As Senior Director, Technology, you'll help lead and grow Public Digital's technology and data consulting work, specialising in UK Public Sector.

You'll work with senior client leaders on complex transformation challenges, helping them make informed decisions about technology, delivery and organisational change.

You'll also play an important role in developing our consulting offer, building client relationships, supporting business development and helping colleagues grow.

This is a senior leadership role that combines client delivery, commercial responsibility and the opportunity to shape the direction of our technology practice.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead complex client engagements, helping organisations improve their technology strategy, digital delivery and long-term capability.
  • Advise senior decision-makers, translating complex technical challenges into clear options and practical recommendations.
  • Grow our technology consulting work, building client relationships, identifying opportunities and leading proposals and pitches.
  • Shape our technology and data offer, working with colleagues to develop services that respond to changing client needs.
  • Develop and support colleagues, providing leadership, coaching and opportunities for others to grow.
  • Work across disciplines, bringing together technology, strategy, delivery and organisational change expertise.
  • Contribute to our external voice, sharing insights and perspectives through industry networks, events or publications.
  • Champion sustainable change, helping clients build their own capability rather than long-term dependence on consultants.

What we're looking for

We're interested in people who can bring a combination of the following experience and skills:

    • Technology leadership: Experience leading complex technology, data or digital transformation in large or complex organisations.
    • Senior stakeholder engagement: Experience advising and influencing senior leaders, helping them make decisions on complex technology and organisational challenges.
    • Commercial experience: A track record of developing client relationships, winning or growing work, and taking responsibility for commercial outcomes.
    • Technical expertise: Strong knowledge in at least one area, such as engineering, architecture, cloud, platforms, cyber, AI or data, alongside an understanding of how technology disciplines work together.
    • Leadership and collaboration: Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, developing others and working effectively across different specialisms.
    • Modern digital delivery: An understanding of product-led approaches, agile delivery and how organisations can build sustainable digital capability.

You'll also bring curiosity, sound judgement and a pragmatic approach to emerging technology, alongside a commitment to delivering better outcomes for organisations and the people who use their services.

Experience working with public sector organisations would be valuable, but we're also interested in candidates who can bring relevant experience from other complex environments.

You don't need to have done everything listed above in exactly the same setting. We recognise that experience can be gained in different ways, and we'd encourage you to apply if you feel your background is relevant to the role.

How to apply

To apply, please submit your CV and a short cover letter.

We're interested in understanding how your skills and experience relate to this role, so please use your cover letter to tell us:

  • Why you're interested in joining Public Digital and what appeals to you about this opportunity.
  • How your experience relates to the role, particularly leading complex technology transformation and working with senior stakeholders.
  • Examples of your commercial and leadership experience, including the impact you've made.

We're not looking for a lengthy statement or a particular writing style. What matters is that you demonstrate an understanding of the role and how your experience could contribute to our work.

Please make sure your CV and cover letter are relevant to the Senior Director, Technology position. As the cover letter forms part of our initial assessment, applications without one, or where the documents are clearly intended for a different role, won't be progressed.

We recognise that people gain experience in different ways, and you don't need to meet every requirement to apply.

How you'll be assessed

We want to understand your skills, experience, perspective and what motivates you to join Public Digital.

We'll start by reviewing applications against the criteria outlined in the What we're looking for section, focusing on your relevant experience and the impact you've made.

If shortlisted, our selection process will include:

  • Initial phone interview: A conversation of up to 30 minutes with members of our hiring team.
  • Panel interview: Taking place on Monday 16, Wednesday 18 or Thursday 19 November 2026. This will include a case study exercise, which you'll receive in advance along with details of what to expect.
  • Informal peer chat: An opportunity to speak with someone in a similar role and learn more about working at Public Digital.

Each stage is designed to be a two-way conversation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and get to know us too.

We're happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to help you participate fully in the process.

A note on using AI: We recognise that AI tools can be helpful when preparing applications. However, we're interested in your own experience, thinking and perspective. We encourage you to use your own examples and ensure that anything you submit accurately reflects your skills and contributions.

Why you should apply

  • Opportunity to grow and progress rapidly within an engaged, supportive environment.
  • Be entrepreneurial and contribute to the growth and success of Public Digital.
  • Deliver high-impact work with leading institutions around the world.
  • Emphasis on learning, development, and progression.
  • Build and develop your expertise and profile through publishing blog posts, presenting at events, and sharing knowledge.
  • Empowerment to do your best work.
  • Home and remote working, with flexibility in how you deliver work.
  • Buddy system and prioritised mental health.
  • Generous holiday allowance of 30 days, plus an additional office closure over the Christmas period.
  • Private healthcare cover.
  • Flexible benefits allowance.

We're an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace where everyone can be their best. Public Digital's mission is to help institutions thrive in the internet era - to do that well, we aim to hire and empower people who reflect the diversity of the users, communities and organisations we work with.

We actively encourage applications from under-represented and minoritised groups, including those with lived experience of the challenges we're working to address. We're keen to hear from curious, collaborative and thoughtful people regardless of gender, age, ethnic identity, religion, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, neurodiversity or physical disability.

If you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every requirement in the job description, please apply anyway, you may just be the right candidate for this or other roles in our wider team.

Things you need to know

  • Salary
We’ll offer a salary that reflects your experience and the skills you show throughout the process. We aim to be as competitive as possible based on what you bring to the role.

  • Flexible working
We support flexible working, and you can split your time between home and our London office. Most of the team comes in around once a week to collaborate, but there’s no set requirement to be in regularly.
    • However, as this is a client-facing role, there may be times when you'll need to travel to a client’s office or attend in-person meetings, depending on the needs of the project. While we offer flexibility where we can, we also appreciate the same in return when it comes to meeting client expectations.

  • Right to work
You’ll need to already have the right to work in the UK when you start. We’re not able to sponsor visas for this role.

  • Reserve list
If the current live roles are filled but we consider you right for PD, you will be offered the chance to join our reserve list. This means we can get back in touch if a similar opportunity comes up within that time, and you won’t need to reapply.

  • Closing date
We encourage you to apply early, as we review applications on a rolling basis. Due to the high volume of applications we’ve been receiving, we may close the role before the advertised deadline and won’t be able to accept applications once it’s closed.
    • We aim to give at least 24 hours’ notice of early closure by updating the job advert where possible. Reviewing applications as they come in also helps us get back to candidates sooner, so you're not left waiting.
