BlueDot Impact
On-site
London United Kingdom
Own the technical infrastructure that trains 100,000+ people annually to help humanity safely navigate AGI.

## Who is BlueDot Impact?

We're a nonprofit startup **building the workforce that protects humanity**. AI will reshape civilisation within the next decade. If humanity navigates this transition safely, we could build a society where all our needs are met, and poverty, disease, and famine become history. However, it could also concentrate power in authoritarian regimes, empower terrorists with weapons of mass destruction, and disempower most humans via mass job losses. Which future we get depends on what we do right now.

Steering this technology wisely requires expertise and action that doesn't currently exist anywhere near the required scale. In an age where companies are racing to train bigger and bigger AI systems, we're betting on training people.

Since 2022, we've trained over 5,000 people across technical AI safety, AI policy, and biosecurity. Around 1,000 graduates now work in high-impact jobs at organisations like Anthropic, the UK AI Security Institute, and Google DeepMind. We're based in London with 4 full-time team members, with plans to expand to Washington DC and the Bay Area. We've raised $35M from Open Philanthropy, including $25M in July 2025.

But we're just getting started. By 2027, the infrastructure you build will:

- Train ~100,000 people annually through our flagship Future of AI course (~300 people daily)
- Enable us to build our [course portfolio](https://bluedot.org/blog/course-portfolio-vision) to cover every aspect of AI safety — from technical research to policy to societal resilience
- Place 4,000+ people into high-impact AI safety work, including founding new orgs and leading existing ones

## What you’ll do

This role is unconventional: part technical lead, part product engineer, part founding engineer. You'll own our technical infrastructure and build products that train 100,000+ people annually in AI safety.

1. **Build products that accelerate people's ability to contribute to AI safety**

Own products end-to-end from talking to users to shipping code. This includes:

- integrating AI tutoring tools to help people learn complex topics
- building tools that help us identify and fast-track exceptional talent
- prototyping wild ideas to improve the course experience

For example, our previous tech lead built an AI evaluator that reduced application review time from 10 days FTE per 1,000 applications to 2 days FTE and open-sourced it for other organisations to use.

1. **Own our technical infrastructure**

You’ll advocate for the best interests of our [technical infrastructure](https://github.com/bluedotimpact/bluedot/tree/master/apps/website#tech-stack) as we scale. This means championing [boring technology](https://boringtechnology.club/) where it works, innovating where it matters and helping the team understand tech trade-offs.

We [work in public](https://bluedot.org/blog/working-in-public), which means we’ve open-sourced our [AI evaluator](https://github.com/bluedotimpact/ai-evaluator-extension) and [cohort scheduling](https://github.com/bluedotimpact/cohort-scheduling-extension) tool for the AI safety community, and we contribute to other open-source projects where necessary.

1. **Create infrastructure that enables impact**

Everyone at BlueDot ships code, from our CEO tweaking our website UI to our product manager implementing Figma designs. We don't wait for "the engineering team" because we ARE the engineering team. You’ll ensure our technical infrastructure scales, whether that’s by enabling the team to deploy without disrupting production or leveraging our excellent SWE contractors for support.

## About you

We wrote a [whole blog post](https://bluedot.org/blog/tech-lead-icp) explaining who we're looking for!

You might be a good fit if you’re:

- **A pragmatic full-stack engineer.** You optimise for impact over perfection and design systems that anticipate scale but don’t over-engineer.
- **In love with building things.** Whether it’s code, gazebos or communities, BlueDot is full of builders, so you’ll fit right in.
- **High agency** to take ownership of outcomes and find creative ways to overcome obstacles without waiting for perfect conditions.
- **Mission-driven.** You care a huge amount about protecting humanity and making the future awesome.

We encourage speculative applications. We expect many strong candidates will not meet all of the criteria listed here.

## What we offer

- **Massive impact**: Opportunity to shape how humanity coordinates its response to AGI by building the tech infrastructure that trains hundreds of thousands
- **Freedom and autonomy**: Our expense policy is "act in BlueDot's best interest", unlimited PTO, minimal bureaucracy
- **£100-120k salary**: Competitive compensation that reflects the stakes, not nonprofit rates
- **Generous benefits**: 10% employer pension contribution and private healthcare
- **London-based role**: We have a strong preference for working in person in our London office. UK visa sponsorship available. Some remote exceptions possible but shouldn't be assumed.

If you're energised by this challenge and want to ensure AI benefits rather than destroys humanity, we want to hear from you.

## Apply today

Applying takes 15-30 minutes, and we encourage you to **apply as soon as possible**. We'll be evaluating applicants starting 15 September 2025.
