About the team
The Technical Services Department at WaterAid Bangladesh serves as the central hub for advancing technical excellence, strategic communication, and evidence-based research across the organisation’s WASH initiatives. Comprising three key portfolios: Technical, Communications, and Research, the department drives innovation, ensures quality assurance, and fosters learning to support impactful and inclusive programme delivery.

The Communication Unit within this department plays a vital role in strengthening WaterAid’s brand, visibility, and public engagement. The team leads on strategic communication, media relations, digital outreach, and content development to effectively showcase WaterAid’s work. By combining communication expertise with innovative use of ICT and digital tools, the unit ensures a strong online presence, smooth information flow, and creative support for campaigns and organisational priorities, helping to amplify WaterAid’s voice and connect people with its mission in impactful ways.

About the role

The primary purpose of the Young Professional (YP) position is to get support for development and monitoring of WaterAid Bangladesh’s wide-ranging ICT and digital portfolio in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector. The role involves working on websites and mobile applications, helping with deployment and version control, exploring new technologies, and contributing ideas for new digital solutions. The position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of ICT initiatives while supporting organisational goals.

The YP is expected to be part of the wider Technical Services Department collectively working towards making clean water and decent sanitation accessible for all, along with ensuring adoption of good hygiene practices. We believe robust and creative application of ICTs and digital technologies can help us attain that. Therefore, the YP will be presented with challenges to increase our technology footprint and being a critical architect to fashion an evolving ecosystem of digital products to improve WASH outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Support in developing and maintaining digital tools such as mobile apps, websites, and information management systems.
  • Assist in managing and updating existing websites and mobile applications.
  • Support troubleshooting and fixing technical issues when needed.
  • Design application prototypes, architecture, visual and shortform SRS, and support development of user-friendly frontend interfaces (UI/UX). 
  • Maintain clean and understandable source code, codebase and transform legacy codes to enterprise-grade, clean codes.
  • Maintain robust documentation and repositories.
  • Optimise existing applications to improve responsiveness, performance, usability, and security.
  • Work closely with team members, consultants, and other departments to complete ICT-related task.

These responsibilities will be reviewed with the line manager from time to time.

To be successful, you will need:

Education: Fresh Graduates with a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science ang Engineering (CSE), Computer Science (CS), Information Technology (IT), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), or relevant subject from any recognised university.

Desired attributes:

  • Proficient in web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and CMS platforms (WordPress, Webflow, Drupal), with experience in UI/UX design using tools like Figma.
  • Skilled in mobile app development for Android and iOS (Flutter, React Native, Java, Kotlin), with integration into app stores and billing systems.
  • Strong understanding of API integration, cybersecurity, database management, and version control (Git), maintaining clean, modular code.
  • Basic knowledge of server management, deployment processes, and staying up-to-date with current digital trends.
  • Ability to transform functional requirements into user-friendly products, with strong written and verbal communication in both Bangla and English.
  • Highly proactive, creative, with strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Maximum age of 26 years as of January 1, 2025.
