Purpose of Role

The Assistant Custodial Operations Supervisor at the Obama Presidential Center will collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure and uphold the quality of the campus’ interior spaces. This role will analyze and coordinate the schedule, timeline, staffing, and budget of custodial related maintenance and upkeep. Importantly, this role will serve as a point of contact for leadership and stakeholders to streamline team priorities and efficient workflows in alignment with the Obama Foundation’s objectives.

As the Assistant Custodial Operations Supervisor, you’ll be reporting directly to the Custodial Operations Supervisor for the Obama Presidential Center.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Lead Custodians and custodial staff ensuring best-in-class standards that align with American Physical Plant Association (APPA) guidelines, as well as the campus' Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum, and International WELL Building Institute (WELL) Healthy & Safety certification requirements.

  • Monitor contracted service providers and vendors to ensure they meet performance expectations, stay on schedule, and support service goals—especially during high-traffic events and special programs.

  • Collaborate with the Custodial Operations Supervisor and the Superintendent of Building Services to develop, implement, and improve procedures for efficient, sustainable operations, including effective inventory management of supplies and equipment.

  • Conduct regular site inspections using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software to collect and analyze data, making informed adjustments to optimize operations. Serve as a point of contact to address maintenance issues with timely responses.

  • Oversee short- and long-term maintenance and upkeep of campus interior facilities including but not limited to specialty structures and finishes, dining areas, museum exhibits, office spaces, athletic centers, libraries, and restroom facilities.

Key Deliverables / Outcomes

  • Oversee training, scheduling for staff, managing day-to-day operations for staff assignments, work orders, and inventory. Gather updates and report on work of staff to ensure efficiency and standards of service.

  • Leverage CMMS software to track services across campus, including contracted services, and to monitor equipment and supplies.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that comprehensive custodial service with attention to detail and compliance with APPA, WELL, and LEED certification standards are met.

  • Perform inspections, reporting areas or issues that require attention to prevent service interruptions for guests and programming.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in day-to-day custodial management of teams, ideally at a cultural or entertainment institution.

  • Demonstrates discretion and independent judgment to resolve unexpected or complex issues with minimal supervision.

  • Experience with inventory and equipment management.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage workforce talent as necessary.

  • Flexibility of hours including but not limited to early morning, late night, weekends, and holidays across campus in both indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to work out of the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park and/or other Obama Foundation locations in Chicago.

The salary range for this role is between $59,755 and $74,670.
