The Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director. The Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility (CLSR) in the Milgard School of Business (MSB) at the University of Washington Tacoma champions educational opportunities and innovative solutions to address pressing social, business, and environmental issues. We develop ethical leaders, create mutually beneficial partnerships, and empower students to positively contribute to communities in the South Puget Sound region, while collaborating with community leaders. This mission is achieved through activities that are geared toward higher education, scholarship, and community engagement with a special focus on activities that engage multiple stakeholder groups. Center goals include: Developing ethical and dynamic leaders equipped to build, transform, and lead organizations that are both principled and profitable. Accelerating the development of innovative solutions to pressing social and environmental issues. Engaging in personal, institutional, and societal efforts that highlight the business case for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Assistant Director of CLSR reports to the Dean of the Milgard School of Business and supports the purpose and mission of the Center, making decisions to determine the CLSR strategic direction, and manages the Center programs, day-to-day operations and outcomes. The Assistant Director designs and executes projects that will interface with a variety of both internal and external organizations to create networking, outreach, and development opportunities. The position regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion in work related to office operations, internal and external communications, community outreach, budgets and expenditures, and meeting and conference logistics. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Center Operations Direct, manage and ensure that the implementation of the Center’s programs are focused on students, faculty, and businesses (including student case competitions, mentoring programs, national conferences, events, and faculty support programs). Develop, manage and maintain the Center’s promotional and communications materials to enhance relationships among the school, community, and business sector, with particular emphasis on showcasing student achievements and engagement opportunities. Oversee the budget and allocate resources; monitor and manage financial resources; develop fiscal strategies to maintain and grow programmatic activity, ensuring adequate funding for robust student programming and experiential learning opportunities. Create a motivating work environment and supervise temporary staff and/or student staff; plan for appropriate staffing levels in accordance with budgetary and strategic constraints. Program Development Collaborate with faculty to assess current global issues and challenges in the field of corporate responsibility and sustainability to identify opportunities for programs, curriculum and research development. Sustain existing signature programs and assist in developing new educational opportunities that prioritize hands-on student learning, internships, and community-based projects. Engage with faculty to develop scholarly work (e.g. Assist in identifying research opportunities within the regional business community; support the development and dissemination of research; and evaluate the pursuit of grants and other fundraising opportunities). Community Outreach and Relationship Building In partnership with UW Tacoma Advancement, cultivate relationships with donors; solicit and steward gifts to further the mission of the Center, including securing scholarship funds and programmatic support for student initiatives. Establish and maintain relationships with students, faculty, staff and administrators across campus as well as with board members. Identify learning opportunities for students, UW community, and members of the external community. Collaborate with members of the local and regional business community and develop strategic partnerships that provide students with networking opportunities, mentorship, and career pathways. In partnership with UW Tacoma Advancement, secure sponsorships to support programs and initiatives. Strategic Planning In collaboration with the Dean of the MSB, assist with establishing the strategic direction of the Center. Communicate the vision and mission of the Center to internal and external constituents. Identify and evaluate new programs, partnerships, and opportunities that align with the Center’s mission. Develop and maintain the CLSR Advisory Board and facilitate their engagement with the Center. Interface with the Milgard Women's Initiative (MWI ) Advisory Council and facilitate their engagement with the Center. Ensure the sustainability of the Center activities and programs through ongoing assessment of needs and resources MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience to include experience in designing and implementing new initiatives or programs, leadership experience, and/or skills related to project, operations, and budget management, corporate social responsibility and/or sustainability. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
