Position Overview:

The Associate Development Director – India is accountable for leading and growing Room to Read’s fundraising in India while serving as a strategic partner to resource mobilization efforts across the AMESEA region (Africa, Middle East, South & Southeast Asia).

Reporting to the Senior Development Director – AMESEA, this role sits within the International Business Development (IBD) team and works closely with Global Partnerships, Marketing & Communications, and India Country Leadership to deliver ambitious revenue goals aligned with program priorities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Revenue Growth

  • Manage a personal portfolio of UHNW and corporate/foundation donors, raising US$ 1.5- 2MM+ annually through major and transformational gifts from both individuals and corporates within India and select geographies beyond.

  • Collaborate with other IBD and Global Partnerships team members both within AMESEA region and globally on India-focused investment opportunities to raise US$1MM+ annually in collaborative revenue.

  • Design and oversee strategy to grow India revenue 5%+ per year, including focus on IFF (individuals and family foundations) as a growing source of revenue within the market.

  • Partner closely with the India Country Office (INCO) to identify and cultivate donor pipeline across all donor segments.

  • Establish, track, and report on India revenue targets, team KPIs, donor pipeline health, forecasting, and performance to Senior Director AMESEA throughout the year.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to two Relationship Managers located in India.

  • Jointly accountable for the India fundraising team’s annual fundraising target of US$5MM+ with the Senior Director AMESEA, including clear strategy, KPIs, and professional development support.

  • Partner with the India Country Office on the country strategy and related resourcing of their goals, vision, and ambitions for the remainder of the strategic plan. Drive processes that align programe needs and fundraising KPIs.

Board & Donor Engagement

  • Drive the Regional Board strategy, annual goals, and engagement plan aligned with the overall market plan.

  • Manage key relationships of HNWI donors on the India Regional Board, including the planning of regular board meetings and related board communications during the year.

  • Support the Senior Leadership Team, Executive Leadership Team, and Regional Development Boards as they represent Room to Read to various constituencies, as needed.

  • Represent Room to Read at fundraising events, pipeline opportunities, and in donor meetings in India.

Events Strategy

  • Lead and deliver the annual fundraising Gala in partnership with the India Regional Board and the Global Events team

  • Conceptualize and execute market-specific events focused on donor stewardship, thought leadership, and pipeline generation.


Strategy, Compliance & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Review and ensure compliance in donor partnerships and contracts with FCRA and CSR regulations.

  • In conjunction with other DevCom sub-teams, develop and implement annual India fundraising goals and strategy, including (but not limited to): fundraising and awareness-raising events, marketing and communications strategy, pipeline development, individual and corporate fundraising.

  • Collaborate closely with Senior Director AMESEA on the fundraising strategy, VP of Global Business Development and Operations, Director of Global Partnerships, and VP of Marketing and Communications to support the overall performance of India fundraising and achievement of annual goals.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years’ work experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization with at least 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience

  • History of dedicated volunteer activity and/or commitment to nonprofit organizations

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute major gift activities and individual success raising USD $1-2M+ annually

  • Experience independently raising six and seven figure gifts

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and nurture business development and administrative teams

  • History of dedicated volunteer activity and/or commitment to nonprofit organizations

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute business development activities

  • Proven ability to work strategically with senior executives

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Positive initiative and mature judgment

  • Highly organized and self-motivated

  • Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills in English

  • Ability to travel

  • Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people

  • Experience living or working internationally is a plus
