Company Description Systemiq is a system change company and certified B Corp, driving the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change. We work across five critical systems—energy, nature and food, materials and circular economy, sustainable finance, and urban transformation—to deliver real, lasting impact. We believe systems change starts with people change. That means curiosity, collaboration, and inclusion are at the heart of how we work.
Since our start in 2016, we have grown to more than 300+ people working across locations in Brazil, Germany, France, Indonesia, Netherlands, UK and the US. We are a pure-play sustainability-focused company, dedicated exclusively to sustainability projects.
The Role
We are looking for a Strategy Associate to join a flagship programme focused on the Indian Himalayas – a region central to water security, climate resilience, food systems and livelihoods.
You will work closely with the Senior Project Manager and wider team to turn a bold systems vision for the Himalayas into robust analysis, clear storylines and well-run workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Support research and analysis on topics such as climate risk, water and basin management, agriculture and land use, livelihoods, tourism and financing models in the Himalayas.
- Help structure and synthesise complex questions into clear hypotheses, insights and recommendations.
- Develop high-quality outputs – slide decks, memos and briefings for senior stakeholders in government, business, finance and philanthropy.
- Contribute to project coordination – maintain trackers and notes, follow up on actions, and support preparation and delivery of workshops, field visits and governance meetings.
- Support stakeholder engagement – capture and reflect inputs from partners, communities and experts in the ongoing analysis and workplan.
Mindset, Skills & Experience We’re Looking For
Experience
- Typically 1–3 years of relevant experience in areas such as: strategy or management consulting, public policy / government advisory, climate or nature programmes, development or blended finance, impact investing, or high-quality research / think-tank work.
- Experience working in India; exposure to climate, nature, water, agriculture or mountain/river-basin contexts is a plus.
- Consulting or other top-tier/high-performance environment experience is an advantage (not a strict requirement).
- Strong academic track record in a relevant field (e.g. economics, engineering, public policy, environmental sciences, geography, data/analytics or related disciplines).
- Familiarity with at least one relevant technical area (e.g. climate resilience, water/basin or landscape management, agriculture/land use, natural capital / ecosystem services, sustainable or blended finance) and ability to engage with technical experts.
Core skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort using both qualitative and quantitative data.
- Excellent PowerPoint and written skills; able to produce clear, compelling slides and concise documents.
- Solid Excel / data skills and comfort working with datasets and simple models.
- Good project coordination skills – organised, reliable and attentive to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration, able to work effectively with diverse colleagues and partners.
Mindset
- Evidenced passion for SYSTEMIQ’s mission and for sustainable, inclusive development in the Himalayas and India more broadly.
- Curious, proactive and eager to learn; comfortable diving into new topics.
- Collaborative, low-ego team player, willing to support where needed.
- Resilient and solutions-focused, able to work under time pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
Languages
- Fluent English (written and spoken) is required.
- Hindi and/or another Indian language is a strong advantage.
Other
- Willingness to travel within India, including to the Himalayan region and other programme locations.
Diversity & Inclusion At Systemiq, we believe that diversity and inclusion are crucial to system change and our mission. We are committed to:
- Embedding diverse and inclusive practices in all aspects of our work, including recruitment, performance management, and people processes and policies.
- Providing a supportive environment where everyone can be themselves and perform at their best, regardless of background, personality, gender, sexual orientation, race, mental health, religion, or other characteristics.
- Supporting our people through all life stages, accommodating personal priorities, and promoting a sustainable approach to work and life.
