About the Position

The Budget Analyst’s responsibilities include preparing budget versus actual reports, monitoring organizational spending, and preparing thoughtful financial analyses. This position is critical for evaluating budget proposals to determine the optimal allocation of project funds, evaluating spending needs, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and ensuring optimal indirect cost recovery. The Budget Analyst will develop a keen understanding and insights into the business activities of the organization. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Budget & Analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate budget proposals and funding requests.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop budgets.
  • Prepare, update, and review budget templates and budget trackers to monitor program spending.
  • Prepare cost-benefit analyses to determine value.
  • Monitor spending to ensure it remains within budget.
  • Analyze actual financial results and forecast future financial needs by country and for the organization.
  • Ensure the organization’s budget adheres to legal regulations.
  • Evaluate the impact of foreign currency and exchange rates on spending and proposals.
  • Prepare financial analyses to identify trends in spending and insights into the funding.
  • Understand, analyze, and monitor timekeeping practices and procedures to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Suggest improvements to increase profits and reduce expenses.
  • Prepare periodic and special reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 yearsbudget and finance experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Naturally curious individual who is highly analytical with advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of working with international NGOs (INGO)
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and accounting software skills.
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, utilize, and present financial data effectively.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize competing projects and tasks with ease and professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English and French;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Valid authorization to work in Kenya at the time of this application without the need for current or future visa sponsorship. Nationals preferred.
