Intro to Position

The Bureau Support Technician is a critical link in NPR’s content delivery chain. Based in our Culver City office, you will ensure the technology powering our West Coast operations remains resilient and reliable. Supporting everything from end-user systems to broadcast-critical infrastructure, this role works at the intersection of traditional IT and modern content production. Responsibilities

  • End-User Excellence: Provide technical support for staff in-person and remotely, resolving hardware, OS, and application incidents across PC, Mac, and mobile platforms.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Assist in the administration and physical maintenance of on-site data center equipment, including servers, storage, telephony, and network connectivity.
  • Production Support: Troubleshoot specialized production tools used in audio broadcasting and content management, ensuring continuity for high-stakes editorial workflows.
  • Identity & Access Management: Manage user lifecycles and security using Active Directory, Exchange/Entra, and MFA tools.
  • Systems Deployment: Build, install, and maintain highly available workstations and production studio hardware following institutional change management processes.
  • Liaison & Escalation: Act as a local technical liaison, collaborating with infrastructure and product teams to resolve critical outages and root-cause issues.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain clear training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and asset inventories for the Culver City office.
  • Operational Readiness: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and work flexible shifts as required to support a round-the-clock news cycle.
  • Mentorship: Support the growth of the team by mentoring junior technicians and interfacing with external vendors for project success.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of enterprise technology support experience in a multi-platform environment (Mac/PC/Mobile).
  • Technical Breadth: Demonstrated experience with Exchange/Entra, Active Directory, and cloud-based device management.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Proficiency in troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, VPN, wireless, and voice/data cabling.
  • Infrastructure Skills: Experience supporting on-site data center environments, including production workstations, broadcast systems,  and server hardware.
  • Support & AV: Proven ability to support enterprise video conferencing and high-end AV equipment.
  • Agility: Demonstrated success in prioritizing multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven, "mission-critical" environment.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on cooperative problem-solving and mentoring others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting specialized audio/broadcast tools (e.g., ProTools, DAViD suite).
  • Familiarity with server virtualization (Linux/Windows) and scripting/automation.
  • Content management system support experience such as Brightspot
  • Knowledge of IT project management practices and risk analysis.
  • Experience with enterprise policy and systems administration for Mac and Windows workstation environments
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL or equivalent database
  • A+, Network+, or Security+ certifications.
  • Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) desired.
  • A+, Network+, or Security+ certifications.
  • Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) desired.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional work experience.

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: The U.S.-based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $37.62 - $46.48 per hour. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
