The Opportunity

Trócaire’s Chief Financial Officer is a senior strategic leader responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation’s global financial strategy, ensuring integrity, sustainability, and robust governance across its multi‑country operations; the role oversees all financial planning, reporting, risk management, internal controls, systems transformation and treasury, while acting as a business partner to the Board and Executive Leadership Team, and leading a high‑performing global finance function aligned with Trócaire’s mission, values, and safeguarding commitments.

The role reports to the Director of Corporate Services. It involves management of a finance team of approximately 13 staff, with oversight and support for around 15 country‑based Finance & Administration Managers

 

Key objectives of the role include driving organisation‑wide financial transformation and initiatives, enhancing internal controls and risk frameworks across diverse country programmes, strengthening multi‑year financial planning aligned with Trócaire’s strategic objectives, and building a finance team culture rooted in accountability, innovation, and the organisation’s mission and values.

Candidates must be a qualified Chartered or Certified accountant and have a minimum of eight years’ post‑qualification experience. Core technical strengths include robust financial accounting capability; extensive experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis; a strong track record in risk management and compliance; plus the ability to influence at executive and Board level. Candidates must also possess excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder‑engagement skills, strong project‑management and change‑leadership capability, and high IT proficiency.

The role is based in Maynooth or Belfast with hybrid work, but up to 2-3 days per week expected onsite in Maynooth office.

International travel is expected approximately twice per year.
