Position Overview
Gun violence destroys lives across Pennsylvania every day. A silent loss in rural PA to firearm suicide. A child killed in an unintentional shooting. Gunfire on a street corner. Behind each loss is a story, and too often, a policy failure that enabled that death.
CeaseFirePA is seeking a Chief Storyteller to lead our communications strategy, crafting bold narratives that build a movement to end this epidemic. The Chief Storyteller will work across our team to craft narratives, amplify campaigns, and bring attention to proven solutions to gun violence. They will raise up elected officials who work to end gun violence and hold those accountable who stand with the NRA. They will partner with survivors through our Deadly By Design storytelling project. And, every step of the way they amplify our work and the stories we share, by engaging influencers, emerging media platforms and trusted messengers to elevate CeaseFirePA’s visibility and impact.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, launch and manage high impact messaging campaigns including Deadly by Design to steer attention to impactful solutions.
- Create high impact content across multiple formats (written, video, graphics) to inspire, inform, and mobilize.
- Lead multi-channel communications efforts across our team that combine earned media, digital content, and grassroots storytelling.
- Track and analyze data to assess impact and inform strategy.
- Be our chief brand manager, upholding integrity and ensuring messaging across the team meets our narrative approach.
- Lead press outreach for major initiatives and crisis communication across traditional and new media spaces.
- Cultivate relationships with people who can amplify our message including influencers, new and old media outlets, movement partners and other networks.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or content strategy with a preference for at least 3 years of experience in advocacy, organizing or campaigning.
- Demonstrated ability to craft compelling narratives that illuminate urgent issues, challenge harmful policies, and mobilize communities.
- Able to evolve with the fluid media and attention economy landscape, using new approaches to educate the public and drive action.
- Passion for ending gun violence and have a trauma-informed approach to working with survivors and impacted communities.
- Highly organized individual able to drive multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality.
- Self-starter able to work independently who enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives, including making a persuasive case for implementation.
- Experience working with consultants and/or managing communications staff.
- Familiarity with WordPress, Canva, and EveryAction (other webhosting, design, digital tools and CRMs required).
Salary & Benefits: $75,000–$82,000, based on experience. This full-time role includes fully covered health care for the employee and one dependent, paid time off, retirement matching, and a training stipend.
