Traineeship description
The trainee will be based in our Bogotá office and participate in projects Climate Focus is carrying out for its clients globally, ranging from climate finance feasibility assessment and carbon project development to legal and policy research and the development of agricultural zero-deforestation business models. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a pioneering, versatile, and dynamic organization, committed to advancing policy design, building capacity, implementing carbon finance mechanisms, and scaling-up sustainable business opportunities. Tasks will include:

  • Research on climate policy and governance, carbon markets and pricing, climate finance, land use change (e.g., deforestation and restoration), and sustainable business models to address drivers of deforestation.
  • Conduct quantitative data analysis related to climate and the environment.
  • Conduct research about the economic impact of climate change and climate change mitigation strategies, such as carbon pricing.
  • Support drafting and editing of reports and briefings.
  • Contribute to the acquisition process by supporting proposal writing.


Profile
Successful candidates will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in biology, economics, finance or other related fields.
  • A Master’s degree in public policy, climate policy, carbon accounting, sustainability management, or similar.
    Postgraduate students currently finalising their degrees are welcome to apply.
  • Proven skills (and fluency) in writing papers, articles, or reports in English and Spanish (knowledge of other languages such as Portuguese, French, or German is a plus).
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Proven affinity with environmental protection, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Previous experience or education in the field of climate change policy, climate and development finance or sustainability.
  • Knowledge or experience with spatial data analysis and visualisation is a plus.
  • Team player that enjoys working in a fast-paced international environment.
  • Permission to work in Colombia - please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship or work permit support for this position.
