About the Clinical Product Specialist at Headspace:

We’re seeking a Clinical Product Specialist to bridge clinical expertise, product development, and AI-driven innovation. This role ensures that AI-powered features are clinically sound, safe, and aligned with user needs, while supporting product strategy, development, and go-to-market efforts.

You’ll work cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, engineers, clinicians, and compliance teams to translate clinical requirements into scalable AI-enabled experiences.

What you will do:

Clinical & Product Integration

  • Translate clinical guidelines, workflows, and user needs into product requirements for AI-powered features
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure clinical validity and safety of AI systems
  • Define use cases, guardrails, and acceptance criteria for AI-driven interventions

AI Model Oversight & Quality

  • Collaborate with Data Science/ML teams to inform model design, training data considerations, and evaluation metrics
  • Partner with the QA team to develop and implement quality assurance processes for monitoring and reviewing the quality of AI-driven interactions, using insights to continuously improve product performance and safety.
  • Support development and implementation of evaluation frameworks (e.g., safety, efficacy, hallucination mitigation)

Content & Experience Design

  • Guide development of clinically accurate conversational flows, prompts, and interventions
  • Ensure tone, escalation pathways, and crisis handling align with best practices
  • Contribute to prompt design and clinical policy layers

Regulatory & Compliance Alignment

  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to ensure adherence to applicable regulations
  • Help define risk classifications and documentation needs
  • Support audit readiness and clinical governance processes

Cross-functional Collaboration & Thought Leadership

  • Act as the clinical voice in product planning, sprint reviews, and roadmap discussions
  • Support go-to-market efforts, including clinical positioning and stakeholder education
  • Work across clinical, research, and AI teams to validate and test AI-driven experiences for real-world effectiveness.
  • Stay up to date with the latest research in AI-driven mental health interventions, digital therapeutics, and conversational AI.
  • Advocate for responsible AI use in mental health, balancing innovation with clinical rigor.

What you will bring:

Required Skills:

  • Advanced graduate training in psychology, Masters, Ph.D. or Psy.D. 
  • 3+ years of experience in AI-driven product development, clinical AI, digital health, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of conversational AI models, NLP, and reinforcement learning.
  • Experience in prompt engineering and designing AI-driven user interactions with a clinical or health-related focus.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based clinical frameworks (e.g., CBT, mindfulness, behavioral science) and how they can be applied in digital experiences.
  • Familiarity with AI ethics, responsible AI, and clinical safety best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in measuring and improving AI-driven experiences using data-driven insights.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills—comfortable working across product, engineering, design, clinical, and research teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with LLMs (Large Language Models) and optimizing AI models in health tech applications.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, clinical safety guidelines for AI).
  • Previous experience in a mental health, digital therapeutics, or health tech startup.
  • Active, unrestricted clinical license and experience providing direct care

Location:

We are currently hiring this role remotely in the US and Hybrid for San Francisco (SF). Candidates must permanently reside in the US full-time.
For candidates with a primary residence in the greater SF area, this role will follow our hybrid model. You’ll work 3 days per week from our office, allowing for impactful in-office collaboration and connection, while enjoying the flexibility of remote work for the rest of the week. Your recruiter will share more details about our hybrid model. 

Pay & Benefits:

The anticipated new hire base salary range for this full-time position is $122,400-$195,500 + equity + benefits. 

Our salary ranges are based on the job, level, and location, and reflect the lowest to highest geographic markets where we are hiring for this role within the United States. Within this range, individual compensation is determined by a candidate’s location as well as a range of factors including but not limited to: unique relevant experience, job-related skills, and education or training.
