Position: Coordinator, SCALE Program - Abuja

Reports to: Manager, SCALE Program - Abuja

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Deadline: 22nd July 2026

TaRL Africa Initiative

TaRL Africa initiative is hosted by Empower Learning Africa, a not-for-profit organization registered and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with teams in Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, and Zambia and locally registered offices in Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire. TaRL Africa began as a joint venture by Pratham and J-PAL in 2019, with the goal of supporting governments and organizations across Africa to accelerate children's foundational skill learning using the evidence-based "Teaching at the Right Level" (TaRL) approach. TaRL Africa's vision is for every child across Africa to have foundational skills so that they can have a better future. Our mission is to ensure education systems effectively equip children with these foundational skills.

In Nigeria, TaRL Africa is implementing the FCDO-funded Scaling Access and Learning in Education (SCALE) program, which aims to improve access to foundational learning for out-of-school children (OOSC) and Almajiri learners by integrating the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach into alternative education pathways, strengthening delivery systems, and generating evidence to inform policy and scale.

To support effective delivery and coordination of SCALE activities, TaRL Africa is seeking a Program Coordinator to provide day-to-day program coordination and operational support to the SCALE Program Manager.

Summary of the Role

The Program Coordinator will support the SCALE Program Manager in the effective delivery of the FCDO-funded SCALE program in Nigeria by providing day-to-day coordination, planning, and operational support to the SCALE Program Manager. • Compile inputs from different teams to support preparation of internal progress updates and management briefs.
  • Maintain organized program documentation, including meeting notes, action logs, and key correspondence.

3. Donor Reporting & Compliance Support

  • Support preparation of donor technical reports, presentations, and briefing materials by consolidating inputs from relevant teams.
  • Assist in tracking reporting timelines and compliance requirements in line with donor and organizational standards.
  • Support quality assurance processes for draft reports before submission by the Program Manager.

4. Partner & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Support coordination with implementing partners and stakeholders (e.g. Education Development Trust (EDT) and government counterparts), as delegated by the Program Manager.
  • Assist in scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and following up on agreed actions with partners.
  • Support communication flows between TaRL Africa and partners to ensure clarity on roles, timelines, and expectations.
