Background

The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent. Through a combination of grant making, fellowships, transformational research, technical assistance, coalition building and advocacy the ACF seeks to support interventions at the nexus of climate change, and development that have the greatest potential to deliver long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive development.

 

Purpose

Reporting to the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager, The Data Analyst is expected to harness the power of data to supports the effective implementation of the ACF Strategic Framework (2025-2030), through Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Framework by providing the mechanisms and tools with which to measure our progress in realising our ambition of “a vibrant and climate-resilient Africa in which inclusive socio-economic development delivers sustainable and equitable growth”.

 

Scope of the role:

  1. Responsible for collecting, collating, analysing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data.
  2. Review full lifecycle analysis to include requirements, activities and design for the organisation’s internal grant management system.

 

Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:


  • Review data collection formats from grantees, consultancies, sponsorships and other stakeholders, as well as reports for new interventions for data interpretation and analysis.
  • Retrieve data and information from various sources within organisation information systems and maintain data system while adhering to internal data privacy compliance.
  • Clean data by reviewing ACF’s strategic documentation, such as Strategic Framework (2025-2030), programmes’ strategies, MEL Framework; and other existing records e.g., funders’ indicators.
  • Input, clean and migrate data and information to the internal system i.e., GivingData, as well as learnings ensuing data integrity and quality and make recommendations on optimising data collections systems and analysis.
  • Test high quality formal analytical reports (including visuals) on key programmes’ outcomes and outputs.
  • Provide support in any other additional responsibilities as required. 


Requirements include but not limited to:  

  • A Degree in relevant data science field, Statistics, Data Management or a related field of study. Preferably with working experience in climate and development in Africa.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant, professional experience focused on data analytics, data visualisation, data management or information technology.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the capacity to analyse complex quantitative and qualitative data retrieving from multiple sources.
  • Competent in database applications for data collection, analytics and reporting; spreadsheet software (e.g. advance Excel, Stata, SPSS, R) and data visualisation software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI)
  • Ability to visualise complex findings and analytical outcomes to diverse audiences and across different mediums.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Proven track record of adjusting in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.


Start date: Position available immediately.

Location: ACF’s operational hub is in Cape Town, South Africa. Remote working will be considered with a preference for candidates based in Kenya.

Contract duration: 6 months
