Position Summary
  • Search is seeking to hire a Data Analyst to support its Media Project and Early Warning System (EWS) aimed at reducing the risk of online hate speech and atrocity-related violence in Syria. The Data Analyst will play a key role in analyzing trends in online spaces, supporting the development of indicators and risk registers, and providing actionable insights to inform timely responses.

  • The Data Analyst will report to Project Manager - Media Program
  • Job location: Syria, Damascus or Lebanon, Beirut
  • Contract period: 5 months (renewable based on funds)


Roles and Responsibilities
  • Consolidate and clean data from multiple sources, including Digital Community Steward (DCS) reports, social media monitoring platforms, and other digital platforms.
  • Maintain accurate and secure datasets for analysis and reporting.
  • Analyze trends in online discourse to detect hate speech, disinformation, and early indicators of conflict or atrocity risks.
  • Develop and maintain early warning indicators, risk registers, and monitoring dashboards.
  • Contribute to the design and refinement of the Early Warning/Early Response (EW/ER) framework, including SOPs, response manuals, and operational guidelines.
  • Provide technical guidance to DCS on data collection, reporting, and early warning practices.
  • Translate complex data into accessible summaries for DCS, project teams, and government stakeholders.
  • Prepare periodic analytical reports, visualizations, and briefings for project management, partners, and government stakeholders.
  • Generate actionable insights to inform decision-making for the project team and government partners,
  • Ensure findings are presented clearly, objectively, and in a timely manner to support early intervention strategies.
  • Coordinate with the MEAL and other departments to capture lessons learned and knowledge sharing.
  • Under the supervision of Project manager coordinate with partners and media actors.
  • Develop weekly trend insight briefs (2–3 pages) highlighting notable shifts in online narratives, and produce monthly analytical reports and dashboard updates to support informed decision-making.
  • Manage and process data from recurring sources, including DCS submissions, monitored social media channels, and narrative


Required Profile
  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an advantage.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in data analysis, social media monitoring, conflict analysis, or early warning systems.
  • Experience working with digital community monitoring or projects focused on hate speech/disinformation is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in data visualization, dashboard creation, and reporting for diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with early warning frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, or atrocity prevention initiatives is a plus.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, Python, R, SQL).
  • Experience with social media listening and monitoring tools.
  • Strong skills in data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
  • Ability to translate data into clear recommendations for non-technical audiences.
