Background
The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent. Through a combination of grant making, fellowships, transformational research, technical assistance, coalition building and advocacy the ACF seeks to support interventions at the nexus of climate change, and development that have the greatest potential to deliver long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive development.

Purpose

The Data Capturer will provide dedicated short-term capacity to support data capturing, validation, and clean-up within ACF’s GivingData (GD) grants management system. GivingData serves as ACF’s single source of truth across the grants lifecycle, including recommendations, approvals, contracting, payments, compliance, and reporting.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that grant records are accurate, complete, aligned with source documentation, and audit-ready during the system stabilisation and consolidation phase.

This is a time-bound, implementation-support role.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:


Data Capturing & Back-Capturing:

  • Capture outstanding historical and current grant data into GivingData.
  • Upload and correctly classify supporting documentation.
  • Ensure alignment between system entries and official records.

Data Validation & Quality Assurance:

  • Cross-check system data against signed contracts, approval memos, and payment schedules.
  • Verify accuracy of key fields (grant amounts, donor coding, approval pathways, dates, payment tranches).
  • Identify inconsistencies, gaps, or duplicate records.
  • Support standardisation of naming conventions, tagging, and data structures.

Compliance & Audit Readiness:

  • Ensure required compliance documentation is uploaded and properly linked.
  • Support preparation of accurate data sets for reporting.

Key Deliverables (Over 3-Month Period):

  • Validated and cleaned priority grant data sets.
  • Reduced backlog of outstanding data capturing.
  • Improved completeness and consistency of grant records.
  • Strengthened data integrity in advance of reporting and audit cycles.

Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • A relevant Qualification in Administration, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 2–4 years’ experience in data capturing, grants administration, compliance, or financial administration.
  • Demonstrated experience working with structured databases or CRM systems.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working within a non-profit, philanthropic, or donor-funded environment.
  • Familiarity with grants management systems.
  • Exposure to compliance and audit processes.
  • Strong data management and quality control capability.
  • Comfort working with structured systems and digital platforms.
  • High integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Detail-oriented and methodical.
  • Self-directed and able to manage workload independently.
  • Clear and concise communicator.
  • Solutions-oriented and proactive.

Start date: Position available immediately. Candidates available for immediate start will be prioritized

Contract duration: 3 months

Location: ACF’s operational hub is in Cape Town, South Africa. Remote working will be considered within South African with a preference for candidates based in Cape Town.
