What We Do
At Leading Educators (LE), we know that excellent teaching is the most important driver of student success. The moment a student steps foot in the classroom, their opportunity to learn depends on how prepared their teacher is to translate complex content knowledge, standards, and their knowledge of that student into lessons that help them learn deeply and apply their thinking to the real world.
That’s a big lift, and it often happens alone. As a national nonprofit, we partner with school systems to overcome persistent instructional challenges, foster intentional collaboration and adult learning by design, and ignite new possibilities through systemic solutions at the intersection of teaching, talent, and technology.
We work shoulder-to-shoulder with educators at every level of the education system to strengthen their instructional and leadership practices, bring a vision for excellent instruction to life with consistency, and ensure every student reaches their full potential.
Through direct support, strategic advising, innovation pilots, and best-in-class research, we help educators work toward a future where every student is ready to thrive. Learn more about our work at leadingeducators.org.
Internal Candidate Application Deadline: 7/21/2026
External Candidate Application Deadline: 7/21/2026
Position
Imagine being the catalyst for transformative instruction across an entire region. As a Design and Coaching Specialist with Leading Educators, you'll partner with 10-12 middle and high schools across Los Angeles Unified School District's North and West regions to build durable, coherent instructional support systems that measurably impact student learning. This is more than a coaching role—it's an opportunity to shape how instructional leaders develop teacher practices and create the conditions for excellence at scale.
You'll be the trusted expert and primary point of contact for school-based instructional leaders, guiding them through the complexities of implementing standards-aligned curriculum while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Your deep knowledge of culturally responsive instruction, combined with master-level coaching skills, will enable you to facilitate meaningful adult learning grounded in real classroom evidence. You'll work with teachers, teacher leaders, and school leaders to translate data into action and aspirations into reality.
This role uniquely integrates design and coaching—two functions that are rarely done well together. You'll use classroom observations, student work, survey data, and leadership artifacts to inform both your coaching conversations and your professional learning design decisions. Your ability to see patterns, synthesize insights, and create targeted learning experiences will directly influence how schools implement high-quality mathematics curriculum and strengthen instructional practice across multiple grade levels and leadership structures.
Do you have expertise in…
- Do you know how to make mathematics come alive for students and teachers alike? You possess deep Grade 6–Secondary math expertise grounded in Illustrative Mathematics, and you know how to unlock the "why" behind the content so teachers can inspire genuine mathematical thinking in their classrooms.
- Can you facilitate coaching conversations that spark real change? You've mastered the art of observation, feedback, and reflection—the kind that shifts how teachers see their practice and empowers them to make bold instructional moves with confidence and precision.
- Do you design professional learning that educators actually want to attend? You create PLCs, learning labs, and leadership experiences that feel fresh, relevant, and directly connected to what's happening in real classrooms. Your designs spark conversation, challenge thinking, and drive measurable improvement.
- Are you fluent in harnessing AI to amplify your impact? You use artificial intelligence strategically—integrating it into your workflows to elevate planning, sharpen analysis, strengthen communication, and deliver results with greater precision and speed.
Do you enjoy…
- Working collaboratively across multiple levels of leadership, navigating complex school systems and building genuine partnerships with teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, and district leaders?
- The intellectual challenge of designing and facilitating learning experiences that help adults deepen their craft, shift mindsets, and translate new understanding into classroom practice?
- Getting into classrooms and observing instruction, using evidence of practice to have courageous, data-driven coaching conversations that lead to measurable improvements in teaching and learning?
- Continuous learning and growth, reflecting on your own practice, seeking feedback, and staying current with evolving approaches to curriculum implementation, adult facilitation, and instructional coaching?
If you've answered affirmatively to these questions and meet the following prerequisites, we urge you to seize this opportunity. This role calls for the following:
- 7+ years of professional experience in education, including direct experience teaching, leading instructional practice, or supporting curriculum implementation
- Grade 6-Secondary mathematics content expertise required, with demonstrated ability to coach and support instruction across middle and high school levels
- Proven experience providing coaching to teachers, teacher leaders, or school leaders with documented impact on instructional practice
- Strong track record designing and facilitating professional learning aligned to curriculum, standards, and observable instructional practice
- Demonstrated ability to analyze student work, classroom observation data, and instructional artifacts and translate findings into coaching decisions and professional learning design
- Ability to manage school-based relationships with professionalism, reliability, and instructional credibility that earns the trust and respect of school leaders
- Practitioner-level AI fluency, with the ability to identify appropriate use cases, apply AI tools to improve work quality and efficiency, and exercise sound judgment about responsible AI use
- Willingness and ability to travel, including approximately 1-2 in-person visits per month to each of 10-12 schools in Los Angeles, plus participation in national organization retreats and professional development
