About the Director, Data Science at Headspace:

At Headspace, Data Science helps the company understand behavior, improve products, prove impact, and make better decisions across Product, Marketing, Care, and B2B. The Director, Data Science will lead the organization across product, marketing, and Care marketplace science, with responsibility for advancing Headspace’s scientific rigor while also deepening the company’s capabilities in product analytics, telemetry, behavioral measurement, and ROI storytelling. Data Science sits at the core of how we improve the health and happiness of our members—translating behavior into insight, and insight into meaningful product and care outcomes.

This leader will manage a team that includes managers and principal-level scientists and will be accountable for both the technical quality of the work and the leadership systems that make strong science repeatable at scale. The role requires someone who can operate at multiple altitudes: setting strategy, coaching senior leaders, partnering with executives, and staying close enough to the work to push quality on experiment design, causal reasoning, measurement choices, segmentation, and modeling.  Success in this role requires owning outcomes end-to-end—ensuring that scientific work not only meets a high technical bar, but also drives clear decisions, measurable impact, and meaningful improvements in member and partner experiences.

What you will do:

  • Own the strategy, execution, and impact of Data Science across product, marketing, and forecasting.
  • Set direction for how the team supports product development, experimentation, lifecycle, growth, and business decision-making.
  • Ensure focus on the highest-value problems across Product, Marketing, Care, and B2B, tied to member and business outcomes.
  • Establish high standards across experimentation, causal inference, modeling, forecasting, segmentation, and statistical rigor.
  • Raise quality in hypotheses, metrics, experiment design, model evaluation, and decision recommendations.
  • Build durable review mechanisms and operating standards to ensure work is sound, interpretable, and decision-ready.
  • Lead product analytics to shape how user behavior is understood across acquisition, engagement, retention, and care journeys.
  • Strengthen data foundations including instrumentation, telemetry quality, validation, and experimentation readiness.
  • Partner cross-functionally to define measurement strategies that demonstrate care impact, outcomes, and ROI.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team by developing leaders, raising the talent bar, and leveraging AI to improve productivity and insight generation.

What you will bring:

Required Skills:

  • 12+ years of experience in data science, product science, marketing science, quantitative analytics, experimentation, economics, statistics, machine learning, or related fields.
  • Proven ability managing senior ICs and people managers, including managers and principal-level scientists.
  • Deep expertise in experimentation, causal inference, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering on instrumentation, measurement strategy, and decision-making.
  • Strong track record influencing roadmap and investment decisions with clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect behavioral measurement and scientific work to business outcomes and product strategy.
  • Excellent communication and executive-facing partnership skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience owning both product and marketing science, or closely related domains.
  • Experience with Statsig or similar experimentation platforms.
  • Experience with healthcare, digital health, care delivery, or other environments where ROI and outcomes measurement matter.
  • Experience using AI hands-on in experimentation, analytics, modeling, or team productivity workflows.
  • Experience in subscription, lifecycle, or B2B/partner-oriented businesses.

Privacy Statement

All member records are protected according to our Privacy Policy. Further, while employees of Headspace (formerly Ginger) cannot access Headspace products/services, they will be offered benefits according to the company's benefit plan. To ensure we are adhering to best practice and ethical guidelines in the field of mental health, we take care to avoid dual relationships. A dual relationship occurs when a mental health care provider has a second, significantly different relationship with their client in addition to the traditional client-therapist relationship—including, for example, a managerial relationship.

As such, Headspace requests that individuals who have received coaching or clinical services at Headspace wait until their care with Headspace is complete before applying for a position. If someone with a Headspace account is hired for a position, please note their account will be deactivated and they will not be able to use Headspace services for the duration of their employment.

Further, if Headspace cannot find a role that fails to resolve an ethical issue associated with a dual relationship, Headspace may need to take steps to ensure ethical obligations are being adhered to, including a delayed start date or a potential leave of absence. Such steps would be taken to protect both the former member, as well as any relevant individuals from their care team, from impairment, risk of exploitation, or harm.
