Founded in 2014, Tiko is an African nonprofit organization that enhances the potential and fosters the resilience of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Sub-Saharan Africa by addressing the critical “Triple Threat”: early pregnancy, HIV, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Tiko has developed its own unique girl-centric technology platform to unite an ecosystem of existing, established partners to provide an environment enabling girls to choose when, where and how they meet their health and wellbeing needs. Leveraging this technology-enabled, community-driven approach, Tiko collaborates with local and national health systems to drive sustainable, transformative change. Tiko operates in seven countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Zambia and Nigeria.

The Job

The Director of Finance provides strategic financial leadership to Tiko, ensuring compliance with accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements across all countries of operation. You will oversee the global finance function, driving excellence in financial management, governance, and risk mitigation. As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will shape and execute the organisation’s financial strategy, enabling sustainable growth and resilience. You are accountable for leading a high-performing finance team, strengthening organisational systems and controls, and serving as a trusted advisor to the executive team and board on all financial and risk matters.

Responsibilities – Will include but not limited to:


Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Provide financial vision, direction, and oversight to align resources with organisational strategy and priorities.
  • Partner with senior leadership and the board to inform decision-making through financial analysis, scenario planning, and long-term forecasting.
  • Lead financial aspects of organisational strategy, including new country entry, legal structuring, and complex donor agreements.


Financial Planning & Control

  • Establish organisation-wide financial planning frameworks and policies.
  • Oversee global budgeting processes, cash flow forecasting, and group-level consolidated reporting in compliance with IFRS.
  • Ensure financial efficiency, transparency, and accountability across all entities and projects.


Governance, Donor & Statutory Compliance

  • Design and maintain the infrastructure, policies, and processes required for compliance with donor requirements and statutory regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ensure all legal, tax, and financial obligations are met and aligned with best practice in every country of operation.


Risk & Internal Controls

  • Develop and strengthen a global internal control framework, including financial systems, policies, and procedures to safeguard organisational assets.
  • Lead financial risk management and collaborate with the risk team to proactively identify and mitigate operational and compliance risks.


Audit & Reporting

  • Oversee all audit processes (statutory, donor, and internal), ensuring timely closure and effective implementation of recommendations.
  • Manage group reporting calendars and maintain strong relationships with auditors, regulators, and other external stakeholders.


Team & Operational Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the global finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Build team capacity through mentoring, professional development, and succession planning.
  • Serve as the ultimate approver for budgets, allocations, and major financial decisions.


About You

You are a seasoned finance leader with a proven track record of steering financial strategy in complex, international organisations. Adept at operating in fast-paced and dynamic environments, you combine technical excellence with strategic vision and strong leadership. You excel at navigating complexity, driving compliance, and building robust financial systems that support long-term impact.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) or equivalent professional certification is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management/director-level role.
  • Demonstrated experience in international finance operations, including multi-country statutory and donor compliance.
  • Proven expertise in IFRS, preparation of consolidated financial statements, and oversight of diverse legal entities.
  • Strong proficiency in financial systems and ERP platforms, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and oversee global financial systems and internal controls.
  • Exceptional leadership and team development skills, with a history of building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Experience working with boards, executive teams, and external stakeholders at the highest levels.
  • Based in South Africa, with willingness to engage across global time zones.


The Rewards

At Tiko we believe in being open, also when it comes to salaries. The gross monthly salary bracket for this position is R99,674 - R149,511, plus benefits. We will offer you a salary in this bracket depending on your level of experience and how it relates to your future colleagues.
