Position Description

The HR Manager will play a critical role in strengthening CLUA’s HR capacity across Latin America, while providing global support. This new role will complement the contributions of existing HR team members, and work to ensure consistency, compliance, and quality in HR service delivery. The HR Manager will assist with recruiting activities, lead on designated HR operations and compliance processes, provide support on sensitive staff relations matters, and serve as CLUA’s Brazilian HR compliance expert. The role requires independent judgment, discretion, and the ability to combine efficient execution with a collaborative, service-oriented approach.


Location

This is a remote, full time, contract position, with a preference for candidates based in Sao Paulo, Rio, or Brasilia, Brazil. The position will require work across multiple time zones, and with colleagues all around the globe, and will require occasional travel.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The HR Manager’s primary responsibilities will include:

HR Administration and Training

  • Oversee execution of HR policies, including select aspects of benefits administration, compliance processes, and recordkeeping in our HRIS, BambooHR.
  • Collaborate with the team to support global onboarding/offboarding processes.
  • Manage recurring HR workflows (compensation/benefits cycles, compliance deadlines, reporting, etc.).
  • Build and conduct trainings on a wide range of HR matters.


Staff Relations & Performance Management

  • Serve as a first point of contact for sensitive staff issues in Brazil and Latin America.
  • Provide coaching and support to staff and managers on performance expectations, communication, and engagement.
  • Support performance management processes, ensuring consistency and equity across the organization.
  • Work with the other HR Team Members to manage employee engagement programs/activities.


Talent Acquisition

  • Participate in and contribute to all aspects of the talent acquisition process, including interviewing, onboarding, and policy drafting.
  • Manage CLUA’s pipeline of global candidates.
  • Support CLUA’s branding and recruitment communications, ensuring clear and consistent messaging aligned with the CLUA HR team’s voice.


In addition to the primary responsibilities, the HR Manager will also:

  • Cross train across all primary HR functions to ensure resilience and adequate coverage across the team.
  • Participate in select special projects (e.g., policy development, compensation analysis, HR communications, software tools, etc.).
  • Collaborate on compliance-related initiatives as appropriate.
  • Build and maintain expertise in Brazilian employment regulations and practices.
  • Serve as a resource for Latin/Central America compliance issues.


Preferred Experience & Competencies

Applicants will ideally have many of the following competencies and some of the following experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in human resources, including direct staff relations, recruiting, and HR operations
  • Experience working with nonprofit, philanthropy and/or international organizational contexts preferred
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Brazilian employment regulations and practices, including payroll and benefits administration
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Google workspace applications
  • HRIS Experience (e.g., BambooHR) would be a plus
  • Ability to travel and/or to work outside of typical work hours (i.e., early mornings and/or late evenings) when required to accommodate various time zones
  • Great fluency in spoken and written English and Brazilian Portuguese is required


Monthly Compensation: USD $6,250 – USD $7,250
