About the Position

CIVIC is seeking highly qualified applicants for our fall internship program to work directly with ourUN/Global Policy team. An internship at CIVIC is a rigorous and rewarding experience, requiring strong research skills, a working knowledge of international humanitarian law and practice, and an exceptional level of maturity and focus.

This is an unpaid internship; however, interns may receive a small daily stipend to cover transportation to CIVIC's offices. 

Academic credit arrangements can be made with your institution.

Commitment of at least 20 hours per week for a minimum of three months, ideally starting October 1, 2025.

The internship is part-time, based in New York, and on a hybrid work schedule.

Key Functions

The intern will be integrated into the team and will support, among other tasks:

• Assisting in planning, supporting, and executing advocacy and policy strategies, including the rollout of CIVIC products for key stakeholders in New York and Geneva;
• Researching issues relating to protection of civilians in conflict, with a focus on UN peacekeeping operations, and drafting relevant materials including blogs and literature reviews;
• Preparing for and attending relevant events and meetings at the UN and within the humanitarian, security, human rights, disarmament, and IHL sectors;
• Developing briefing materials for meetings and missions;
• Monitoring conflicts and countries of interest;
• Contributing to qualitative data analysis;
• Depending on profile, responsibilities may also include developing social media content; maintaining databases; and supporting meetings and events as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications

• This internship is open to current graduate level students, those who have recently completed graduate studies, or those with an undergraduate degree and relevant work experience.
• Applicants should be flexible and have confidence in handling multiple tasks, as well as the ability to work independently.
• Applicants are expected to have excellent writing and research skills and should anticipate using these skills frequently.
• Interns will be expected to maintain a level of confidentiality and discretion when working withsensitive information.
• Fluency in French is an added advantage.
