Job Description 

The successful candidate will be based in our Washington, D.C. office and participate in projects Climate Focus is carrying out for its international clients. This work will be primarily focused around
climate change mitigation in the land use and forest sector. 
 

 

This is an excellent opportunity to work with a pioneering, versatile and dynamic organization
committed to enhancing low-emission policies, facilitating institutional capacity building for climate change mitigation activities, and accelerating carbon markets.
 

 

Specific tasks may include but will not necessarily be limited to: 

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on issues including deforestation-free production of commodities, sustainable supply chains, climate smart agriculture, landscape restoration climate policy, and climate finance. 
  • Support assessments and advice related to national climate pledges and policies under the Paris Agreement in the context of nature-based solutions, forests, and food systems. 
  • Analyze emerging carbon market standards and GHG accounting methodologies regarding alignment with integrity criteria defined by global initiatives such as ICVCM and in-house guidelines 
  • Review and assess greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and development projects in forest and land-use sectors. 
  • Conduct research and analysis related to carbon markets and nature-based solutions. 
  • Support advisory projects for government, multilateral, and private sector clients in the areas of nature-based solutions, climate finance, carbon market mechanisms, and carbon market transactions. 
  • Conduct financial and technical analysis of land use business models. 
  • Assist in business development efforts through proposal writing and coordination. 
  • Contribute through research, drafting, and editing to written products, such as reports, issue papers, policy briefs, and the Climate Focus blog. 
  • Contribute to acquisition through support with the preparation of proposals. 

 

The internship will run for a period of 3 months, with the possibility of extension. 

 

Climate Focus currently operates a hybrid work-from-home and in-person work schedule, as public health considerations allow. Therefore, the candidate should be based in or willing to relocate to Washington, D.C. 

 

Profile 
Successful candidates will have: 

 

  • A graduate degree in environmental policy, business, economics, forestry, agriculture, or related disciplines. Recent graduates and those graduating by January 2026 are encouraged to apply.
     
  • Strong candidates currently pursuing graduate degrees may be considered. 
     
  • Full-time (40 hours/week) availability. 
     
  • Strong interest in building a career in international climate advisory services. 
     

The ideal candidate will also have: 
 

  • Demonstrated experience and interest in carbon pricing, carbon markets, climate finance, climate policy, forests, agriculture, and/or sustainable supply chains, with relevant academic and/or professional experience. 
     
  • Strong research skills and analytical capacities, both qualitative and quantitative. 
     
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. 
     
  • Ability to work well within teams across disciplines and cultures. 
     
  • Proactive intra-team communication skills, motivation and self-discipline required to succeed in a hybrid work-from-home and in-person work environment.

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required, and advanced language skills or fluency in Spanish
    and/or Portuguese are strongly preferred.


  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under multiple and competing deadlines.

  • Permission to work in the U.S.
