Kenechi Okeleke, Senior Director
About the Team
GSMA Intelligence is the definitive source of global mobile operator data, analysis and forecasts, and publisher of authoritative industry reports and research. We provide the most accurate and complete set of industry metrics available, comprising tens of millions of individual data points, updated daily. GSMA Intelligence is relied on by leading operators, vendors, regulators, financial institutions and third-party industry players, to support strategic decision making and long-term investment planning. Our data and insights are frequently cited by the media, academia, and NGOs. The GSMA Intelligence team is largely based in London and Delhi but is currently expanding with new roles in other locations to build out its regional capabilities and deepen on-the-ground insights.
About the Role
As a Lead Analyst covering the Middle East and North Africa, you will be GSMA Intelligence’s expert and first point of contact for insights across a range of topics in the region. These are wide ranging, including operator strategy and performance, network transformation, AI and other emerging technologies, satellite, digital content and services, climate and sustainability, digital policy and regulations, and the socio-economic impact of mobile technologies.
You will track key developments across the entire digital ecosystem in the region and work closely with the regional team, key ecosystem players, and GSMA Intelligence colleagues to derive insights and articulate their implications for the telecoms industry. These insights will be disseminated through thought-leading reports (long-form and short-form), presentations, and other formats with internal and external stakeholders. You will also maintain existing relationships and develop new ones with industry players, including mobile operators, vendors, international organisations and regulators, and leverage analyst briefings, one-to-one meetings, and industry events, to draw insights and identify opportunities for collaboration.
Working with the GSMA’s MENA regional team will be a key priority and opportunity to parlay our assets and commercial capabilities to simultaneously support their agenda and key relationships. In addition to report delivery, this will involve sourcing new consulting and subscription business where relevant and developing proposals and workplans for project delivery. This will also involve representing GSMA Intelligence as a speaker at regional events on key topics.
You will collaborate with key members of the wider GSMA Intelligence team, including Data Forecasting, Consulting, Research, Economists, and Sales and Marketing to drive synergies and teamwork. Much of this collaboration will happen remotely with colleagues based in London, Delhi and other locations. As such, some flexibility may be required to accommodate multiple time zones.
About You
You will have demonstrable knowledge of telecoms industry dynamics and will be familiar with major trends shaping the global digital ecosystem, including technology evolution and customer behaviour in the consumer and enterprise segments. You will also have a solid understanding of the telecoms business, technology and policy landscapes in MENA and can analyse the impact of various developments on the mobile and broader telecoms sector. You will have fluent and compelling written and oral communications skills in English, and ideally Arabic (although not required), and the ability to deliver insights independently. You will be a confident communicator, able to discuss research insights with internal colleagues and present same to external stakeholders at industry events and other forums.
As this is a generalist role, you will bring – and be willing to further develop – expertise across multiple topics in the telecoms industry. Experience in modelling and/or quantitative analysis would be a bonus. You will have a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with industry players to gather insights through briefings and meetings. You will enjoy working within a team environment and be able to build networks with key individuals to support your role but also possess the self-discipline to work independently to meet targets. You will have excellent cultural awareness and the capability to work with globally dispersed teams.
