The Human Resources (HR) team works to find, grow and retain talent and build the NGS community. HR is dedicated to designing and building people and total reward strategies that enhance employee culture and the employee experience at NGS. The HR department includes HR Business Partners, Total Rewards & Recognition, Talent Management, and it leads the internship program at NGS.Your Impact
Responsibilities Include:
Administers all employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, short/long-term disability, parental leave, family leave, military and other statutory leaves. Ensures strict adherence to NGS’ policy and all federal, state, and local leave regulations. (30%)
Coordinate requests for ADA accommodations and manage related medical documentation. (20%)
Serves as a subject matter expert, advising and guiding employees, managers, and HR Business Partners on leave entitlements, policies, procedures, and available benefit resources. (10%)
Maintains accurate and detailed records of all leave cases within the HRIS. (10%)
In collaboration with the Vice President, supports relationship management with The Hartford, NGS’ third-party leave administrator and makes decisions on which complex claims will be managed externally. (5%)
In conjunction with the VP, The Hartford, and the office of Legal and Business Affairs, oversees compliance with and coordinates state paid leave benefits programs. (10%)
Administers Workers’ Compensation claims from initial report through resolution, ensuring compliance with state/federal laws and company policies. Completes the annual OSHA reporting. (15%)
What You’ll Bring
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
3+ years of experience in leave program administration.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Experience in administering leave programs and Workers’ Compensation.
Strong understanding of leave administration to include FMLA, state mandated leave benefits and disability plans.
Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Must have strong attention to detail and quality of work including good proofreading skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
The salary range for this position is $78,850.00 - $83,000.00.In addition, the National Geographic Society offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package that includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, and vision insurance; engaging and comprehensive wellness program; 401(k) retirement savings plan with matching contributions after 6 months of employment; flexible paid time off benefits with up to 22 days of paid annual leave per calendar year (15 days for new hires in their first year, prorated based on the number of pay periods remaining in the year) and 10 days of sick leave; 12 paid holidays and a paid winter break between December 25 and 31 (May not apply to all roles that are required to work during high volume seasons or essential workers. Job Designation
Remote - Our Remote designation includes staff who must work in another location in the U.S. or abroad, such as our regional leads for our Education and International teams or regional fundraisers in Advancement.
