How You’ll Contribute

The Marketing Strategy team is dedicated to designing and implementing brand marketing campaigns, managing global audiences, and leading the creation of marketing content, and implementing technology and operations to enable the success of embedded marketing teams across priority programs and business lines. This team ensures marketing efforts are cohesive, data-driven, audience-centric, and consistently on-brand, while also providing marketing systems, tools, and coordination to empower decentralized teams to engage effectively with their audiences and advance organizational goals.

The Manager, Marketing & Digital Content reports to the Sr. Director, Digital Engagement within the Marketing Strategy team. This role is responsible for the creation, curation and production of digital content, including writing compelling copy to support the National Geographic Society's websites, blog, email newsletters, and broader marketing needs. This includes collaborating with various teams to implement a cohesive editorial vision that supports the Society’s mission and marketing objectives.

Your Impact

Responsibilities Include

  • Content Production (50%): Lead the development, and production of digital content for NationalGeographic.org, the marketing blog and Society News email newsletter. This includes ideation, project management, editing, and publishing of various editorial content experiences across content platforms.

  • Omnichannel Integration & Optimization (30%): Drive engagement with content peers and stakeholders to develop distribution and integration plans for Society digital content across various platforms. Work with the Marketing Strategy team and embedded marketing teams on user journeys and tailor content strategy based on performance metrics to support further audience engagement. Facilitate cross-team collaboration through meetings and knowledge-sharing. Provide content support for enterprise-wide campaigns and other top-of-funnel marketing strategies.

  • Brand Voice & SEO (20%): Develop and maintain the Society’s brand voice in digital content, ensuring consistency and appropriateness across all channels. Work with content creators to ensure content is SEO-friendly, and contribute to the overall SEO strategy.

Educational Background

Bachelor's Degree preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

5+ years of experience creating and leading digital content efforts.

Necessary Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of digital content creation with an audience-centric and omni-channel approach.

  • Strong narrative ability to craft compelling stories for digital channels including websites, email and social.

  • Keen understanding of journalism practices and current trends in content.

  • Ability to prioritize workflows with strong attention to detail.

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills and ability to work with individuals and groups at all levels.

  • Experience in a variety of Content Management Systems (CMS).

  • Experience in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in SEO strategy and content optimization.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Salary Information

The National Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations.

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

The salary range for this position is $90,200.00 - $95,000.00.

Job Designation

Hybrid - At the Society, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid staff are also always welcome to come in additional days each week if preferred.
