CLUA hosts Forest, People, Climate (FPC), a collaborative of philanthropic donors, civil society and community-based organizations seeking to halt and reverse tropical deforestation while supporting just, sustainable development. FPC focuses on equitable and enduring solutions that safeguard tropical forests and support those stewarding them, in particular Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities, and Afro-descendants in tropical forest countries. Position Description

The Manager of Engagement for Forests, People, Climate (FPC) (the “Manager”) will play a key role in fostering inclusive, transparent, and trust-based engagement with the FPC community of regrantors, grantee partners, advisors, and other stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Engagement, the Manager will support a range of engagement activities, with a strong focus on building and sustaining governance systems and strategies coordination processes, engagement strategies, community convenings, and project management approaches that underpin FPC.  


This is an opportunity to help build  relationships that are vital to FPC’s success, working in partnership with field leaders and funders alike to advance shared goals for equity, climate justice, and forest protection.


Location

This position is remote with a preference for candidates based Europe or Latin American and or having lived experience in FPC strategy countries and/or other tropical forest countries. The position will require work across multiple time zones, extensive travel (over 15%) and collaboration with colleagues around the world.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Manager of Engagement will primarily:

  • Lead the day-to-day management of FPC workstreams, ensuring timely execution, budget alignment and progress towards projects implementation 
  • Coordinate regular exchanges with the Strategy Leads to stay updated on progress and strengthen collaboration
  • Support the Director in creating and implementing engagement strategies and processes to foster trusted relationships and shared ownership of FPC among stakeholders. Design and coordinate regular convenings and engagement activities  related to FPC’s strategies, in partnership with FPC’s Secretariat and partners. 
  • Identify and elevate insights from FPC’s strategies and engagement with partners to support decision making processes. 
  • Work closely with Strategy Leads to ensure alignment and coordination, while promoting a shared commitment to FPC’s priorities and ways of workingWork closely  with FPC Communications to design and deliver strategies, activities and messages that help raise FPC’s profile and to deliver timely and transparent communication with partners.
  • Gather and synthesize insights from FPC stakeholders to support continuous learning, reflection, and adaptation.
  • Serve as a liaison between FPC and CLUA’s operational, programmatic, and communications functions to ensure coordination and follow-through.
  • Support efforts to assess and strengthen FPC’s work on the Congo Basin Strategy and Monitoring & Learning workstream, contributing to internal coordination and the development of suitable approaches where needed.


Preferred Experience & Competencies

Applicants will ideally have many of the following competencies and some of the following experience:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement, philanthropy, international development, or a related field, especially in or with tropical forest countries.
  • Strong experience coordinating, facilitating, and creating collaborative environments among organizations
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to oversee multiple activities and deadlines across a team working in different time zones and geographies.
  • Experience working in diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environments, including experience in anti-racist / anti-colonial work, and commitment to justice and equity work.
  • Proven ability to support planning, logistics, and facilitation for convenings, meetings, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous processes and communicate consistently with a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong cultural competency and diplomatic skills, including navigating cross-cultural communications and listening to and learning from those from diverse cultures and identities.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including the ability to appreciate and learn from different perspectives and to mediate and resolve conflict.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; working knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, French, and/or Indonesian Bahasa a significant plus.
  • Strong personal commitment to advancing solutions to deforestation and climate change, advancing human rights, and promoting principles of trust-based philanthropy.
  • Ability to regularly travel internationally and to work outside of typical work hours (i.e. early mornings and/or late evenings) when required to accommodate various time zones.
