Job Summary:
The Marketing Associate is responsible for developing marketing strategies to increase awareness of CPJ’s brand. This position will be responsible for effective digital-first communication campaigns to increase the organization’s engagement, reach and revenue. The Marketing Associate is responsible for increasing CPJ’s general supporter base, helping to generate leads and help recruit new donors and advocates to meet fundraising targets and drive social change. To succeed in this role, marketing experience is required, as is the ability to work independently and proactively. This position reports to the Communications Director.
If hired within the United States, this position will be part of a collective bargaining unit represented by the Writers Guild of America, East.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- With support from the Communications Director, oversee the design of CPJ’s visual and digital communication assets and provide marketing support to the broader organization ensuring brand consistency, reviewing graphics created by other departments to ensure they align with CPJ’s visual guidelines.
- Develop and implement marketing activities to enhance awareness of CPJ’s global brand.
- With support from the Communications Director, develop the planning and implementation of integrated marketing campaigns, including developing and executing creative concepts and multi-channel marketing plans.
- Project manage the creation of marketing assets and draft marketing copy for web, eDMs, digital, including support of CPJ’s annual gala.
- Identify and help develop strategic partnerships with other organizations to raise awareness of CPJ to achieve our brand, fundraising and campaigning objectives.
- Lead the coordination of CPJ events, both virtual and in-person, and assist in vetting speaker requests and identifying opportunities for partnerships.
- In conjunction with the Development team, execute marketing activities to achieve acquisition and conversion of donors and meet fundraising targets.
- Implement lead generation and conversion strategies, including the development of eDM supporter journeys, ensuring all marketing activities and communications are accurate, timely and on-message.
- Work with the Development team to implement data segmentation strategies and analysis to develop targeted digital communications to supporters.
- Assist with reporting on key performance metrics to optimise campaigns while in market and oversee detailed monthly reporting and post-campaign analysis.

Qualifications & Competencies:
Required:
- At least 2-3 years’ experience in execution of marketing campaigns and brand communications, including marketing campaigns for fundraising, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
- Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Communications or similar qualifications/experience.
- A genuine passion for delivering end-to-end digital marketing campaigns.
- Demonstrated experience in the successful planning and implementation of lead generation, acquisition, and conversion marketing strategies.
- Strong copywriting skills.
- Strong experience implementing effective marketing projects to timelines and desired outcomes.
- Ability to produce basic graphics using Adobe Suite, Canva, or comparable software as needed, following CPJ’s visual brand. Sound knowledge of the marketing briefing, design and production process for digital and print.
- Experience with digital platforms such as Salesforce, Classy, GoFundMe and Mailchimp.
- Exceptional project management skills and an ability to work across competing priorities to deliver a high volume of marketing campaigns.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including relationship management skills, with proven ability to collaborate and create partnerships to influence positive learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated skills in campaign measurement and tracking, with experience in optimization informed by data analysis.
- Ability to occasionally work a weekend or a night during a planned event
- Ability to travel within the United States, as needed (typically 1 trip per year)
Preferred:
- Experience working in the non-profit sector
- International experience and at least one additional language

This position is located in New York City, in the United States. It is classified as hybrid-required. For this position, this means that the individual is required to be located within the commutable NYC area in order to support and participate in in-person events as needed. Regular work from the office is expected 1-2 days a month on average.
