1. Context

2. Job Profile

Medical Commodities Officer will work on all relevant issues related to pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and medical equipment within RI’s Health Program in his/her assigned implementation area. The primary functions are to assist the medical commodity coordinator in planning, procurement, warehousing, distribution, and tracking all medical commodities procured and distributed to health facilities. Ensuring all the Health facilities are informed with minimum requirements for best practices in storage, distribution, documentation, and rational use of supplies. The Medical Commodities Officer will ensure that all the movements on the medical commodities within the health facilities are registered in the daily consumption form and reflected in the monthly consumption form. S/he will technically supervise the medical warehouses and pharmacies inside HFs. He/she will supervise the transfers, storage, and consumption are compliant with WHO and RI standards and regulations while maintaining best practices. S/he will provide technical support to pharmacists, pharmacist assistants, and warehouse keepers in RI-supported HFs. This position will technically report to the medical commodity coordinator, s/he will work in close collaboration with the Field Health Officers.

3. Key Responsibilities

• Work in coordination with the medical commodity coordinator to provide support and technical input on all issues relevant to pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and equipment within RI-supported HFs, in particular in pharmacies and medical warehouses in HFs.
• Perform a quality inventory check within RI warehouses including the expiration date based on the shared and agreed specification of medical supplies.
• Prepare a final physical inventory report on each shipment received and share it with the Medical Commodity Coordinator and other Operation teams documented with photos and short Videos.
• Work in coordination with the medical commodity coordinator to ensure monthly consumption reports from health facilities and analyze the results in collaboration with the relations team, to determine and customize the supply of medical commodities based on the actual needs of health facilities and ensure the availability and avoid stock-outs.
• Conduct monitoring visits to the supported HFs to check (storage standards, records keeping, consumption reports, monthly medical commodities needs, the status of medical equipment, avoid stockouts, and track the expiry dates for essential medications and supplies, cold chain items) in the site’s health facilities, with providing a weekly report supported by photos and short videos if applicable.
• Work with coordination with the health team to track and monitor rational drug use and make sure adherence to the medicines described by the doctors in the clinics provide patients with rational usage and report updates to the medical commodity coordinator.
• Support the Medical Commodity Coordinator in planning, preparing, and providing any needed Capacity buildings for staff in the HFs in different Medical Commodity aspects.
• Implement any other activity requested by the direct supervisor according to RI policy.

4. Person Specification

Skills, knowledge and expertise required for the role.

• Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from recognized institute
• At least 3 years relevant experience in managing medical commodities in health programs including warehousing and pharmaceutical management.
• Previous NGO experience is an advantage
• Experience working closely with other NGOs and local partners.
• Strong liaison, diplomatic skills, and ability to handle stress.
• Computer skills, in particular email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• English, both written and spoken, is desirable
