About the position

To support the documentation of programmes and impact, CIVIC is seeking to recruit a National Communications
and Multimedia Consultant (Photo/Video). The consultant will produce professional visual and multimedia content
including photography, videos, and graphics -, and develop communications materials such as brochures, briefing notes, press releases, and other editorial products.

The consultant will contribute to strengthening CIVIC’s positioning on the Protection of Civilians (PoC) agenda and enhancing the visibility of its work and impact in Mali.

The objective of this consultancy is to design and implement tailored communications approaches highlighting CIVIC’s activities in Mali, and to produce high-quality multimedia and editorial content to support internal and external communications.
This includes the production of visual materials (such as photos, videos, and graphics) and written communications products that showcase CIVIC’s field operations, results, and impact. The content will support donor reporting, advocacy efforts, and learning products, while ensuring adherence to conflict-sensitive and protection-focused communication practices.



Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Officer, the consultant will be required to:

Stotytelling and content production

  • Develop compelling multimedia content (
    articles, photos, videos, social media posts and graphics) highlighting the impact of activities in the field, with a particular focus on personal stories, programme successes and protection and humanitarian issues;
  • Take professional photographs of CIVIC activities (training sessions, workshops, community dialogues, meetings, field activities), including portraits and testimonials illustrating the impact of interventions within communities;
  • Capture video footage of activities, events and intervention contexts, as well as testimonials from civilians and CIVIC staff members;
  • Produce and deliver edited videos (approximately 1 to 3 minutes in length) adapted to the format adopted by the communications team, donor reports, institutional presentations and digital platforms ;
  • Ensure the editing of photos (selection and colour correction) and videos (editing, colour correction, colour
    integration and subtitles);
  • Provide
    accurate captions and essential contextual information (date, location, description of the activity);
  • Ensure that the free and informed consent of the persons filmed or photographed is obtained, and that CIVIC's principles of confidentiality, data protection and ethics are strictly adhered to;

Ensure compliance with the visibility and visual identity requirements of CIVIC and its funders, where applicable.

Produce graphics as brochure, trifold, reports and social media post to highlight key program results for external, internal and donor purpose.


Communications strategy

  • Collaborate with field team to design and implement tailored communications strategies.
  • Ensure communications efforts align with CIVIC’s overarching goals, reflecting the organization's mission and values.
  • Provide support for timely communication of programmatic achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, ensuring that all materials are consistent with CIVIC’s brand and voice.

Editorial Material:

  • Support the development of media outreach materials (press releases, op-eds, media briefs and written stories) to raise awareness of CIVIC’s field activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local journalists and media to amplify CIVIC’s messaging.

Deliverables

Per assignment or as agreed:

  • A set of edited high-resolution photos and videos for each major activity, event or story covered, in accordance with the guidelines defined with the communications team at headquarters and the country team;
  • One or more short edited videos (as previously agreed), ready for use on digital platforms, including social media, presentations and donor reports;
  • Raw files (photos and videos) to be sent to the designated focal point;
  • Complete captions and corresponding contextual notes;
  • Signed consent forms, where required
  • Graphic design products, such as brochure, trifold, reports and social media post
  • Editorial content, including press releases, op-eds, media briefs and written stories higlighting the experiences of civilians affected by conflict)


Deliverables must be submitted within 5 to 10 working days after each mission, unless otherwise agreed in advance.

Duration and terms

Type of contract: Framework agreement

Duration: 12 months, renewable depending on performance and funding

Level of effort: As required

Location: Bamako and certain field locations (subject to security clearance)

Qualifications and experience

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in photography and videography, content creation and communications;
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field
  • Proven experience working with NGOs or on development and/or humanitarian projects;
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating relevant work, particularly in humanitarian and sensitive contexts;
  • Good knowledge of ethical storytelling practices, informed consent and protection principles;
  • Ability to work in sensitive and conflict-affected environments;
  • Fluency in French and English is required.

Equipment

The consultant must have their own professional equipment (camera, audio equipment, lighting if necessary, editing and editing software).

Intellectual property and confidentiality

All materials produced as part of this consultancy will be the exclusive property of CIVIC. Any use of the materials for personal purposes (including in a portfolio) will require prior written authorisation from CIVIC. The consultant must strictly comply with the confidentiality, backup and data protection requirements applicable throughout the duration of the assignment.

Payment terms

Payment based on an agreed daily rate or a flat fee per assignment, including editing for ;

Payment made after satisfactory delivery and validation of deliverables by CIVIC;

Travel expenses, if any, must be approved in advance and will be subject to a separate agreement.
