Position Overview

OCCRP is seeking to hire an innovative and experienced Dutch and English-speaking investigative editor with strong ties to existing investigative reporting networks and organizations in the Netherlands. This editor will join OCCRP’s global team of cross-border investigative journalists to help deepen our work in the Netherlands and wider Europe. The editor will be expected to commission, manage, and produce high-quality investigations that have a real-world impact and directly address organized crime and corruption globally.

Job Description 

Responsibilities include:

• Identifying, commissioning, and managing stories from start to finish
• Coordinating teams of reporters working on complex investigations 
• Working closely with the rest of the editorial team, particularly partners and staff in Europe and OCCRP’s European member centers 
• Cultivating new sources and contacts in the region
• Guiding journalists toward successful completion of their stories, including overseeing reporting and ensuring that investigations meet OCCRP’s standards
• Producing complex stories that will be impactful and result in accountability 
• Seeking out and fostering new partnerships, including non-traditional ones, to further investigative journalism in the Netherlands 

Person Description

Essential:

• C2 level Dutch and English 
• Excellent collaborative and communication skills and ability to work as a team player with multicultural teams
• At least 3 years of experience working as an investigative editor or coordinating a team of reporters 
• Ability to generate strong investigative story ideas across Europe
• Ability to distill complex investigative material into compelling stories
• Strong understanding of journalistic standards of proof
• An eye for detail and ability to edit meticulously
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• A proven record of producing high quality, impactful, and original investigations
• A strong regional network of contacts, including journalists, researchers, and sources in the Netherlands 

Desirable:

• Fluency in a third language besides English and Dutch
• Experience using a range of investigative journalism tech and storytelling tools and complex databases 
• Knowledge of follow-the-money techniques
