The RISC Group headed by Jane Im is hiring a postdoc to work on consent mechanisms for AI & machine unlearning, especially for non-commercial artists (i.e., artists that create artwork independently; this is possible if artists apply for grants and fellowships, for instance).
The postdoc will lead a project that would require understanding artists’ perspectives using HCI methods and also developing prototypes of AI systems.
What this role would entail:
Understanding non-commercial artists’ perspectives on generative AI by conducting both qualitative and quantitative studies
Developing and evaluating prototypes for helping non-commercial artists understand machine unlearning and data attribution
Writing and submitting publications to top-tier HCI or Security/Privacy conferences
"At the RISC (Real-world Interactions & Systems for Change) group, we develop digital systems that give users more agency over their online interpersonal interactions and data. Currently, we focus on designing and building social media and AI systems that center the consent of users—who often hold less power than system creators. Consent is fundamentally about ensuring individuals—especially those who tend to be vulnerable—have full agency to decide whether and how an interaction should occur."
