PPCA Secretariat Coordinator, Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA), London

This London-based role will support delivery of the PPCA Secretariat by coordinating events, steering committee and member engagement, and internal processes ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across the PPCA.


Background

The Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) is a coalition of over 180 members working to advance the transition from unabated coal power generation to clean energy. Founded in 2017 by the United Kingdom and Canada its membership now includes almost a third of the world’s countries, financial institutions, sub-national governments in the most coal-dependent regions in the world and leading utilities. The PPCA Secretariat is hosted by E3G, an independent climate change think tank, which provides management and administrative support to the Secretariat, plus strategic analysis and advice.

Role Overview

The PPCA Secretariat Coordinator plays a central role in supporting the effective delivery of the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) Secretariat’s work. The role coordinates events, member engagement, governance meetings and operational processes, ensuring smooth collaboration across a global network of governments, businesses and civil society partners.

Working closely with the Secretariat Manager, Head of Secretariat and wider E3G teams, the Coordinator provides high-quality logistical, administrative and stakeholder support that enables the PPCA to advance its international mission and deliver impact across a fast-paced and dynamic policy environment.


Key Responsibilities

Lead preparation for key events

  • Coordinate logistical preparation and delivery of PPCA events, including agendas, timelines, invitations and supporting materials.
  • Manage event logistics such as venue liaison, travel arrangements and scheduling.
  • Maintain and update the PPCA contact database, calendar and forward plan of key meetings and milestones.
  • Conduct background research to support preparation of meetings, briefings and deliverables.

Organise meetings and delegations with senior stakeholders

  • Support coordination of meetings and delegations involving senior political, civil society and media stakeholders.
  • Manage logistics including scheduling, travel coordination, agendas and briefing materials.
  • Support the Head of Secretariat with meeting scheduling.

Membership coordination

  • Coordinate communication and engagement with PPCA members.
  • Organise PPCA governance and member meetings, including PPCA Steering Committee, Implementation Committee and Members Meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records of member contacts, engagement and correspondence.
  • Work with the communications team and Secretariat Manager to coordinate progress updates on PPCA work.

Operations and Internal Coordination

  • Support the development of effective ways of working and communication for a growing Secretariat team based across multiple time zones.
  • Support recruitment processes, including coordinating applications, interviews and candidate correspondence.
  • Strengthen cross-team coordination by contributing to the development and maintenance of internal tools and processes that support events and Secretariat activities.
  • Support drafting of internal documents, reports and correspondence as required.
  • Provide updates on PPCA activities to E3G internal communications, ensuring PPCA updates are shared at staff forums and newsletters.
  • Provide flexible administrative and coordination support to the Secretariat Manager as required.

About You

  • Motivated by E3G’s mission and keen to gain hands-on experience in policy-oriented research and stakeholder engagement in an international setting.
  • Several years’ relevant professional experience and track record in a relevant setting.
  • High level of initiative and be positive, organised, resilient, and able to deliver high-quality work on time.


Skills & Experience

  • Experience of events management.
  • Experience of building relationships and networks, and working with partner organisations, coalitions, and networks including senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of project and budget management. Prince 2 or other project management training or qualification would be considered relevant but not essential.
  • Very strong written communication skills and advanced written and spoken English.

E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in the jurisdiction in which E3G employs them. Occasional international travel may be required from time to time.
