The Team

The Finance organization at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation partners with colleagues to invest the foundation’s resources wisely and boldly in service of people who need it most. This is achieved through maximizing the impact of the foundation’s investments and people, protecting the foundation’s assets and brand, and enabling the foundation’s leadership to strategically allocate resources.

The Enterprise Business Management Team provides product and business ownership for information products that support resource allocation and management, investment and portfolio management, and services to help meet teams’ data and reporting needs as well as the development and management of the systems, processes, resources, and supports enabling the foundation to make and manage charitable investments. We also manage the data and business processes that fuel enterprise planning and central reporting, as well as provide the financial analysis and planning support for operational, central, and executive leadership.

Your Role

The Program Manager will own product work streams from early ideation to solution implementation. Specifically, these responsibilities include root cause and business analysis, technology and business process solution design and delivery.

What You’ll Do

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage intake and backlog for product requests.
  • Perform detailed analysis of business problems, processes, and customer needs to define requirements for appropriate system, tools and/or process solutions/improvements.
  • Define potential solutions and desired outcomes and contribute to prioritization decisions according to measurable business and stakeholder value.
  • Elicit, analyze, validate, and manage needs/requirements of customers utilizing user centered design principles and data driven decision making.
  • Seek out requirements and act as voice of customer between the partner and customer community and the technical team responsible for solution delivery.
  • Provide product ownership from requirements gathering through design and development with technical partners, as well as ongoing support.
  • Contribute to content development and delivery for implementation/change management activities, including communication, training and education, resources, and customer support.
  • Build positive, constructive relationships with customer and partner groups to enable a deep understanding of their work and experience with systems, processes, and tools for optimal solution and implementation design and delivery.
  • Compares actual performance with planned performance, analyzes trends to inform program improvements, evaluates possible alternatives and drives implementation of ongoing improvements.
  • Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; escalate issues in a timely fashion to appropriate stakeholders.

Your Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience with 5+ years of experience in product development.
  • Experience developing products from early ideation to solution testing and implementation.
  • Experience with change management/implementation activities including requirement management.
  • Solid understanding of how to identify waste and inefficiencies in business processes and lead right sized and efficient solution design, development and delivery.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills working with many types of data and experience using tools like excel to conduct and present information.
  • Preference for experience with and/or certification in business process design/product development frameworks, such as Lean Six Sigma and Agile methodology.
  • Experience shaping product solutions with an awareness of underlying data structures and how information flows across systems to support reporting and analysis
  • Preference for experience with Salesforce.
  • Preference for experience with Power BI.

  • Product management experience and/or strong analytic and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify dependencies, integration points, and to objectively evaluate competing requests across the enterprise and deliver innovative, global solutions.
  • Systems-thinking capabilities to understand formal and informal intersections and interdependencies to be able to frame the problem, evaluate issues, see downstream effects and identify future implications across the end-to-end system to help prioritize solutions.
  • Ability to identify waste/inefficiencies in business processes and develop right sized and efficient solution development and delivery.
  • Intercultural and interpersonal relationship-building mindset and skills. Ability to adjust workstyle and communication approach to accommodate diverse audiences.
  • Strong facilitation and inclusive oral and written communication skills, including the ability to “translate” requirements between various groups and tailor communications based on the audience
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative virtual work environment, balance competing priorities and manage time successfully.

The salary range for this role is $140,200 - $210,200. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $152,800 - $229,200. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
