PROGRAMME LEAD, Global Clean Power Diplomacy, Temporary Maternity Cover (6 months) - INTERNAL ONLY


E3G is seeking a temporary maternity leave cover at Programme Lead level to advance our Clean Power diplomacy work.


The role will focus on activities to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels, with a specific focus on coal power phase out, and to support countries to accelerate their transition to clean energy, with a focus on mobilising financial flows in support of a faster more balanced energy transition globally.


The role will be available for from March to November. The Programme Lead will be based in one of E3G's offices in either London, Brussels, Berlin or Washington DC and also available to EoR Staff.


Background


The Global Clean Power Diplomacy team undertakes energy transition diplomacy with a focus on fossil power exit commitments and clean power financing needs for emerging markets, using established diplomatic platforms and global network of staff and associates.


Role Overview


E3G is seeking a temporary maternity leave cover for an existing Programme Lead role covering our Clean Power Diplomacy work in delivering GCPD’s diplomacy objectives for leading specific grants covering our clean power diplomacy including work to:


  • Oversee secretariats for the Energy Transition Council and Clean Energy Transition Partnership, working closely with government stakeholders to ensure effective delivery and strategic evolution of these alliances, including to support the development of new approaches to mobilise greater and more balanced financial flows in support of the energy transition globally.
  • Oversee a team producing E3G thought leadership pieces on global coal exit (including accelerating coal retirement, ending the new coal project pipeline), and clean power deployment, working in close partnership with the Powering Past Coal Alliance.
  • Lead petal strategy around energy diplomacy advocacy in multilateral venues (particularly UNFCCC), contributing to wider E3G efforts on Climate Diplomacy.
  • Drive thought leadership and advocacy around the transition away from fossil fuels and energy finance (including public international finance, subsidies, and leveraging private finance).


Person Description


You are a highly motivated professional with experience of diplomacy in the energy transition and climate policy space.


You have strong collaborative and interpersonal skills which allows you to work effectively with diverse and remotely located teams.


You have strong programme and project delivery skills which enable to deliver effectively across a number of objectives.


You are able to set strategic direction and bring a strong problem-solving approach and are able to innovate to find new solutions to enable E3G to deliver its global objectives going forward.


Experience and Skills


  • A strong track record of leading high performing teams, with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills applied to the leadership of diverse international teams, and with a focus on creating a strong culture of well being
  • Proven experience of international collaboration and stakeholder management skills with the ability to act confidently in the field of international diplomatic outreach and engagement
  • Demonstrable experience of programme and project management, with evidence of managing complexity and of strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience of budget management and fund raising, project management and program management, preferably in the context of grant-funded work
  • Strong communication skills are essential. Good knowledge of at least one other language would be an advantage
  • Whilst previous energy transition experience is desirable it is not essential for this role.
