The founders of the GBL are Ach Adhvaryu – Professor of Economics, Director of the 21st Century India Center at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego, Anant Ahuja – CEO & Co-founder of Good Business Lab and Director – ESG & Sustainability at Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd. (India’s largest Ready Made Garment firm), and Anant Nyshadham – Associate Professor at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, and Chief Strategy Officer & Co-founder of Good Business Lab.


Role: Research Assocate

Location: Delhi NCR/U.P./Punjab/Haryana/Rajasthan

Position Type: Fixed Term Role

Contract Duration - 12-15 months (extension on need basis)

Remuneration: INR 8.5 - 10 L per annum


Research Associates (RAs) are crucial to the success of randomized evaluations. They work closely with academics from top global universities to manage the implementation of these evaluations, ensuring precision and rigor in both design and execution. The project is being implemented in the Environment sector and the RA will be expected to work with different stakeholders in the biofuel supply chain.


What will you do (areas that will play to your strength and all the responsibilities we will trust you with):

  • Conducting scoping and qualitative surveys during study design phase
  • Designing survey instruments and ensuring that survey is being conducted properly
  • Conducting enumerator training and monitoring data quality and ensuring that problems with data are resolved promptly
  • Identifying potential threats to research design, proposing solutions, and escalating as needed to researchers
  • Conducting secondary research and literature reviews
  • Ensuring research and data protocols are upheld. (For instance, ensuring IRB approval before data collection, ensuring coding and analysis protocols are followed)
  • Ensuring project documentation is complete and well maintained
  • Preparing policy memos and brochures on past and on-going research
  • Cleaning data required for the analysis of a study and supporting with sampling and randomization
  • Coordinating with the administrative and finance teams on a variety of tasks related to payments to study participants and other study related costs
  • Ensure project implementation adheres to study protocols by facilitating alignment between research teams and implementation partners.
  • This involves coordinating timelines, sharing updates across teams, and proactively troubleshooting daily challenges, all while cultivating and maintaining strong working relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, such as codebooks, field protocols, and project logs, to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
  • This detailed documentation must meet academic standards and facilitate eventual replication and publication.
  • Should be open to conducting field work and travelling to villages occasionally


Who are you? Ideally, you have (The areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role):

  • Bachelor's/Master’s in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Development Studies
  • Previous experience in conducting primary surveys with farmers and field activities in villages in North India will be preferred
  • Work experience in conducting field work like scoping surveys and managing enumeration team is preferred.
  • Previous experience in conducting surveys with farmers and field activities in villages in North India will be preferred
  • Ability to work in a team, manage multiple projects on the ground, review and prioritize work independently, and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality work.
  • Ability to work standard work hours and should be open for traveling (in and around project locations) for field work Be detail-oriented, have strong organization and self-management, and have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools such as Stata or R Experience with digital data collection platforms such as SurveyCTO is preferred
  • Ability to be resourceful and creative in problem-solving Basic to pro-level experience in Microsoft Word and MS Excel.
  • Ability to read, write and converse in Hindi and English (A candidate that can also speak in Punjabi would have an advantage)
  • Experience working with external stakeholders such as government departments or NGOs is a plus.
